Dorms & Upper Rez

So I got accepted to McGill a few days ago, and I know they are opening up housing applications and such soon so I just had a simple question I couldn't seem to find an answer to anywhere else. Gardner, McConnell or Molson? It would be cool if someone could elaborate on the differences between them, or just straight up tell me if there really are none. I've pretty much decided on Upper Rez no matter what, for a few reasons so it would be cool if I could get straight answers, instead of ones from people who will just say don't live there. From what I've read, the place has the atmosphere and people I want to be around, so please help me out! =D

search in google there is a thread like that where someone present all the residences

I found some threads that might help you. :)

Thanks so much =D

Yeah, I am pretty sure the upper rezs are pretty much the same, just located in different buildings. The atmosphere in each should be about the same. I am living in a more house, but I have been to gardner once and it seemed nice. But the rooms were too small for me.

fouuuu I don’t understand anything on the rez … darn it ! I need to study that i guess …:(

I dont think the atmosphere between the three buildings could be any different this year. Molson hasn’t let its party-hard reputation slack off in the slightest. I think it attracts people who are genuinely partiers and those who aspire to be. Think biddies and bros. McConnell has maintained a very friendly ambiance, but is definitely a different dynamic since the wings are segregated rather than co-ed. Gardner is by far the most down to earth rez with a lot of different types of people–not simply the “artsy” kids. Gardner tends to be the closest rez.

hey guys

do you have access to the housing status online on minerva ?

Bodes, what do you mean by different? Like they couldn’t be any different as in each dorm has completely different people? And what would you personally recommend? It sounds like youre a Gardner guy ahaha.

ArtemisF, No. It looks like by “Housing Applications will be available by the end of February” really means Housing apps will be available mid-March.

By different, I mean that each rez does to some extent live up to its stereotype. Of course, anyone could probably get along just fine in any of the three, but it doesn’t mean that people don’t notice small differences between people. I recommend Gardner and McConnell. And I suggest you avoid the hotel residences unless you are okay with knowing a very small number of people. You become close, but it’s nowhere near the same as being able to socialize with an entire building and finding your niche within that. In hotels, you tend to only know people on your own floor, and not even all of them.

@Bodes, yeah I definitely don’t want to live in any of the hotel residencies after what I’ve heard. I’m more of a down to earth middle lower class kind of guy so I don’t love stuck up people. I hate to ask more because I’ve asked a lot already but if you could break down the details that make Molson and Gardner different it’d be awesome. I’m really torn between the two, because I get along with everyone. I’m somewhat hipsterish/indie in ways, but I love the idea of partying a lot and love to be around people who do as well. But then again I love down to earth people who can relate to the different stuff I’m in to, or can just tolerate it. If you could just break it down a little it’d be cool. Also a small detail I was wondering about, is I know its college and everyone parties, and that Molson is well known for it, but does Gardner still get down a lot or what? Because if they do, it seems like it’d be perfect for me.

Also lame question but, would you say Gardner has some decent looking girls from your experience? I like good looking down to earth women =]
