Dorms vs Apts

Is it cheaper to live on campus dorms (manzanita/san raf) or is it better living on an apartment in IV? How was your financial aid affected? How much money was deducted from financial aid?
Thanks!

It is cheaper to live in apartments rather than dorms, but you do not get a meal plans at the dorms, which is really nice actually, especially if you do not cook a lot. You usually don’t end up cooking a lot when you live in apartments just eating out in IV. I hear that IV is now really impacted, so now apartment rates are going up and it may be harder to get an apartment. If it is your first year, I would definitely recommend the dorms, you make more friends, more fun social events close by and you get a meal plan so you’re never starving. if you really want to do apartments, if it’s your first year try Tropicana gardens, it’s cheaper and you also get food haha

For me, I get a huge financial aid package, my parents are low income and I got a freshman grant in 2010 (class of 2014) to cover my dorms, but after that I did not have the grant. I lived in apartments and had to take out loans to help pay for the rent.
