Yeah, I remember when Google Earth was the big dog on the block. Hell, I remember when it was Keyhole. But alas, in terms of individual images, Microsoft Windows Live Local blows it out of the water, nowadays.

Loads slow as **** on my work computer (which is an utter POS) so I'll have to try at home. I remember Keyhole, I also remember that it cost me money.

I don't use Google Earth. Never understood why people thought tiwas the greatest thing ever.

hey avni3123, where in Champlin? I lived there last year. Champlin, Morris, Emery, Wolley are basically all the same as far as the rooms go, though they do tend to vary in a shape a litle. They're one of the few dorms with elevators, and they're located above Pembroke's dining hall and auxiliary gym. The bathrooms are semi-private, so two rooms to every bathroom, and they're cleaned pretty regularly which is nice but you have to provide your own hand soap. All the dorms are located near the Gate, a late night eatery, so definitely check it out when classes start. If anyone wants to see pictures, PM me.

it seems kinda far at first, but you get really good at power-walking. it's about a 5 minute walk to the ratty (going down charlesfield and walking through patriot's court), 10 to 15 minutes to the main green.

Perkins kids know all the shortcuts. In good weather, it only takes a 5 minute walk to the Ratty, 8 minute walk to the green, 12 minute walk to Pembroke (double those times if it's really really icy or something).

what is the bathroom situation like in Littlefield? Do they stay pretty clean? Also, what are the pluses and minuses of living there? A lot of people seem to be pretty excited that they got into Littlefield, but I really don't know anything about the different dorms, so I don't know what I should be looking forward to (or should be forwarned about). Can anyone give a more detailed description of life in Littlefield?

On each floor of Littlefield, there are two bathrooms (one for guys, one for girls). On the first three floors, each bathroom has two stalls and two showers; on the fourth floor, there are two stalls and one shower each (the fourth floor showers are the biggest). Since each floor has 17 people living on it (16 freshmen and one C), this is fine. If you want to take a shower and your floor's showers are occupied, you can always use one on a different floor, since it's all one unit.

In terms of cleanliness, it depends on who's living there and what floor you're on. The fourth floor bathrooms were pretty much spotless last year, while the first floor bathrooms were ocasionally not perfect, but nothing super gross. Also, some of the showers tend to clog up (not drain fast enough), but this wasn't a problem on the fourth floor so I don't know how bad it got on other floors.

Here's a secret -- the fourth floor girls' shower has an 8-setting massage shower head. None of the others do. It was so much nicer than my shower at home, and definitely made me happy to get up in the morning!

Plusses of Littlefield in general:
Location -- none of your classes will ever be more than a 5-minute walk away, plus you're right next to the Ratty and Faunce. In terms of social stuff, you're also close to Keeney and Wriston.
Rooms -- some of the biggest freshman doubles on campus (except fourth floor non-corner rooms, which are average size). Also, good-sized walk-in closets and carpets!
Dorm size -- with only 64 freshmen, you are all one unit, so you really get to know and love your unit-mates.
Lounges -- they just re-did the Littlefield lounges this summer, so hopefully they'll be pretty nice. There are also more lounges than in other dorms because there's one on each floor (kitchen on the first floor). This means there's almost always an extra lounge open if you want a quiet space to study or talk on the phone.
The roof -- I'll let you figure this one out for yourself.
The basement -- well, this is kind of a plus and a minus... lots of people party in the Littlefield basement, which is cool if you want to party, but not so cool if you live on the first floor and want to sleep or study.
Carmen -- She was the janitor for Littlefield last year, and if she's still working there this year, you should definitely get to know her. She's really friendly and funny, and always called me "honey."

Minuses:
Some people would rather live in a bigger dorm (like Keeney) for various reasons. That's pretty much all I can think of.

since we seem to be harassing you guys with questions.. i've got another 2:

what's the atmosphere like in frat/program houses. (should i be freaked out about sharing the building with a 'spiritual community'/Interfaith House?:D)

wriston rooms are pretty solid. They are pretty much just rather large boxes (well, if you didnt live in new pembrooke, you would proabably assume a square room anyway) and have good space. I lived in Wayland last year, and my roommate and I had enough room in the center of our room for a loveseat. The bathroom situation is communal (single sex) with an avg of 2 or 3 stalls, showers and sinks in each room. There are some frats that are a little notorious for not being too kind to their indies (i believe DTau, Thete were the biggest complaints, and Sigma Chi- i think -blew out the electricity in Olney when someone decided to pour beer in the circuit breaker because it makes cool sparks) I really wouldnt worry too much about it, the house attitude towards indies can change drastically from year to year depending on the brothers and the indies themselves.

i hear that the pembroke campus is a little anti-social and more on the quiet side. is this true?..i hope not... how is it in terms of parites and and general social activity?

wow, ILoveBrown! Thank you so much for the great description of Littlefield! I'm really stoked now - it sounds awesome! I pretty much love climbing on top of roofs, so I'll be sure to check out the view from up there, haha! So... are all the rooms in Littlefield carpeted? I was thinking about investing in an area rug, but it sounds like maybe I won't need one? Also... this is a completely stupid question... but are there vacuum cleaners in each dorm that students can use, or do you need your own if you ever plan to vacuum your floor? I'm not OCD about cleaning or anything, but I do have a thing about nasty floors...

the closest gym to perkins would probably be the Bear's Lair (which is in Grad Center). It's ok, it has a bunch of ellipticals and treadmills, maybe like 3 or 4 bikes and some weight machines. but they only have like two machines for legs, which was kind of annoying.

you should bring your own vacuum. Pembrooke is "anti-social" in the sense that no BIG parties happen there. Most BIG parties are on wriston (frats) and a few on main green.
