DORMs- what did you get?

Hmm I'm a little confused about the cleaning thing. I'm in keeney and i hear the bathrooms get pretty gross... are we responsible for cleaning them ourselves, or is it more that we'll end up wanting to?

Wait im an idiot and just read the fifth page. Sorry!

allie_babwa -- Yup, the hallways and all rooms are carpeted, so you don't really need an area rug. Even so, I got myself a 5x7 rug (chenille, on clearance at Urban Outfitters -- don't buy from Brown Student Agencies, they'll rip you off) and I was glad I had it. It just made the room a little cozier, since the carpet isn't exactly cushy.

Littlefield has one vaccuum, a friendly guy named Henry Hoover (check him out on facebook). You can borrow him whenever you want -- he sometimes lives in the bathroom closets or sometimes downstairs by the kitchen.

Speaking of BSA -- did you guys all get the mailing about the mini-fridge rental? Dear lord, don't do it! Look at what they're charging you to rent it -- you could BUY a nice fridge just like that at the exact same price and then have it all four years, or buy a nice used one for a quarter of the price. Also, if they send you anything about a linens package, don't do that either. You might save money, but the products they used last year were not so nice (my roommate got their big package with sheets, comforter, towels, etc). You might as well go to Target or somewhere and spend a little extra money to have comfy sheets.

Yeah, I would pretty much ignore almost EVERYTHING that they mail you as a deal to help you get set for college. The only thing I've seen that WASN'T a total rip off was the laundry service IF EVERYTHING YOU WEAR needs to be dry cleaned and pressed. I figured out that's the only way you're saving any money and significant amounts of time and even THEN it's expensive, and who the hell dresses like that for 9am class?

I didn't think the refrig rental was too bad and if you split it with your roommate, then it came to under $100 for the whole year. They deliver it and take it away at the end-you don't have to lug it up stairs, find a place to store it over the summer, bring it home or anything like that. What do kids do with them if they own them? Give me some feedback please. I agree with you about the linens-Bed, Bath and Beyond or Linens and Things are much cheaper and it is not hard to get XL twin sheets at almost any store.

IkJohn, I would completely disagree with the idea that Pembroke is antisocial. It may seem that way at first since nobody knows each other and the dorms are more separated than they are in Keeney. We don't have universal card access, so it's a little harder to get into buildings and walk around and find room parties. But you'll quickly make friends in other dorms on Pembroke who will let you in, or if you just wait around a bit someone will open the door for you. Just go to the V-dub and hang around the Gate at night, and you'll be able to get a good network going. That said, a lot of people go to Wriston for larger parties, but that's the case with pretty much every other freshman dorm. The amount of parties usually depends on who ends up living on Pembroke and who you know. 111 Brown St. threw some pretty cool parties last year, but it's a different group this year so who knows.

Can anyone tell me anything about how good or bad Bronson is?

Well I live on LI and I could have taken the fridge back with me no problem, and mine cost about 100 new. I ended up getting storage with three friends-- cost us 75 bucks each for the summer and it's about 5 mins from Brown and more than fit a ton of **** with plenty of extra space. 5x10x10 concrete box basically.

Bronson was great, it's in Keeney. What do you need to know about it though? I was 4th floor Bronson and had a fantastic time, by in large because of how awesome our unit was-- great people. But other than that, it's typical Keeney. Very reasonably sized room (though I had one of hte largest Keeney doubles), 3-4 bathrooms per unit (for each sex), kitchens on about every other floor, etc.

aidnked, my roommate from last year and his friends are 6 of the 12 111 Brown members. 4 of them are pretty crazy.

I wonder who you are then Iwanna, cause I know a group of 6 in 111...

You said littlefield had carpeted rooms, does Hope have carpeted rooms also?

Is Bronson carpeted or not? And since it doesn't have any laundry rooms (as i read from the reslife site), where would you go to get your laundry done?

It's attached to the rest of Keeney and both Everett and Archibald have basement laundry rooms. It's not a far walk at all. Like hte rest of Keeney, the halls are carpeted, but the room is tile.

modest, is the group of 6 guys, cuz if it's not, then we dont know each other. (although i'm pretty sure the other 6 are not one group, so i have the feeling we have mutual friends)

aidnked, who does have universal card access?

Does anyone know if the walls in keeney are cinderblock or something else?

something else, don't ask me what, i have no clue, but i know it's not cinderblock

only rescouncil members have universal card access, it really doesnt matter though, either call your friend and tell him you're there, or just wait till someone comes into the dorm and follow them in.

what are the floors are like in emery? carpeted?

another perkins question (thanks thisisliz!!): What do you usually do for breakfast??? It takes a while to get to most classes...how do you have the time to actually go and get food at a hall?
and one other while I'm at it: are all gyms open to all students?
