DORMs- what did you get?

wait, what? people actually eat a meal in the morning? w t f

that's exactly what i thought, amor. i definitely never went and ate breakfast at the ratty during the year. if anything, i usually just ate a bagel that i got from jo's or an odwalla bar or something. breakfast didn't really happen much, since i'd be eating lunch a few hours after my first class anyway.

Some perkins kids go to the Ratty for breakfast, but not very many kids (Perkins or otherwise) have breakfast in the dining halls at all. For example, what I did when I was on the 20/wk plan last year was to eat one or two meals in the dining hall, and then use my meal credit at the end of the day to buy myself cereal, milk, yogurt, granola bars, juice etc at Jos for breakfast the next day.

Do you know Vale and John and them? I think that they chose 111 Brown, at least that's what another friend told me...

actually I ate b-fast 3 times a week, before orgo. I thought, "I'm already waking up this early, I might as well get up 15 minutes earlier than that and get a quick meal in the ratty." So I did that. We were already waking up at like 730/8 to get to macmillan by 830 anyway.

i didn't live in perkins though

but i guess there's your answer--just leave 15 minutes earlier than you normally would if you want to grab breakfast, as the ratty is fairly central so you can leave it and get to your class in like 2 minutes.

modest, you are getting dangerously close to finding out who I am (and would thus be the first person at Brown to discover my identity) i may have to kill you (of course, that would require that I know who you are)

Interesting. I bet you could already figure me out at this point if you go back and read some of my posts...

ikjohn, carpet in the hallways, tile in the rooms.

Champlin Hall 217 for me.

modest, i think i'm even easier to figure out, although I guess now I have a new challenge for the next week or so

Hrm, I guess I should read through some of your posts now that you know who I am...

Anybody in Andrews? I'm in Andrews West 055!

Yeah, how is Andrews?

Andrews is sometimes called "hotel Andrews" because all of the rooms have sinks, which is pretty cool. Other than that, it's a pretty standard dorm.

Andrews does also have elevators, which can be helpful if you're moving into one of the higher floors.

What's the social scene like in Andrews?

please everyone stop asking "what's the social scene like in ____?" You're going to a school of less than 6k undergrads on a campus that can be crossed in less than 15mins if you go at a good pace. You will never be restricted to your dorm. Also the people in the dorm change every year, and thus the dynamics will be different every year.

yellow,

It'll be hoppin, cuz you'll be in there, and i'll be in there :)

No, seriously, I'm putting a bar in my room! It's gonna rock!

I lived in Hope last year. It's an absolutely fantastic dorm. Like in Littlefield, the doubles are some of the largest freshman rooms on campus (212, 312, and 412 are the biggest....i was in 412). The rooms aren't carpeted and the walls are cinderblock, but its really no big deal. You throw some posters on the wall and an area rug on the floor and your fine. The dorm houses something like 65 people. Last year the first floor was all upperclassmen but I'm pretty sure the entire dorm is primarily freshman this year. Hope is 4 floors (no elevator) and a basement, with 1 RC on each floor, and 1 bathroom on each floor. Technically the bathrooms alternate male/female by floor, but if everyone on your floor agrees, they will likely be coed. Each has 3 stalls and 3 showers. The dorm itself is on the front of the main green, on the left side of Faunce (if you are on the main green facing Faunce). It's an incredible , central location....the only dorm truly on the main green (yes Littlefield is almost on the main green). Our basement lounge was really nasty last year, but like Littlefield's its being redone so things should be very nice when you guys arive....it's a really popular place for parties during orientation. My favorite thing about Hope is that you get to know everyone so well and make a lot of really close friends rather quickly. Anyway, hope that helps... if you have any other questions feel free to ask.
