dorms with good pianos for students who wish to practice?

Are there any good pianos in dorms, if so which ones?

I believe there is a piano in Brace Commons, which is in the East Wheelock cluster. My son practices in the Hopkins center. I think that students who either take lessons, or are part of one of the ensembles, are provided keys or some way to access practice rooms and lockers for instruments.

thanks! I'll have my son check it out next week!

Menloparkmom, Dartmouth also offers private lessons, based on an audition in the fall. Students can take the lessons at no cost, as part of Music 11. They take lessons for the 3 quarters, and are given 1 credit at the end of the year. You may want to have your son talk to someone in the music department. http://www.dartmouth.edu/~music/undergrad/instruction.html

There's a piano in McLane (the River cluster).

There's a piano in the basement of my dorm, the Fayerweathers. I think the residential website specifies that there is a piano in each dorm cluster.

How selective are the auditions to take private lessons? I've played for a long time, but I don't intend to major in music or anything, though I don't want to give it up in college.

I auditioned for piano lessons at the beginning of this term and was able to get them. I think it depends mostly on how many people are trying to get them at a time and they just try to fill in the slots. If you've played for a long time you'll likely be able to get them.

The audition was mainly playing a piece that you had recently played and then answering a few questions about your previous experience.
