dorms

What is the housing like at NU. I was accepted ED and am thinking about what to do housing wise. What are the party dorms, extremely studious dorms, ect.?

I live in Allison, which is a pretty cool dorm (one of the hardest to get into for freshmen). Supposedly it's the party dorm on south campus, although Bobb (on north campus) is by far the craziest dorm at Northwestern. All depends on what you're studying, cause you don't want to have to trek up to north campus if you're studying math/sciences or down to south campus if you're more into social sciences. There are a lot of quiet, more anti-social dorms like Parc, Slivka, Plex (to an extent), Chapin ... actually, the only fun dorms I can think of are Allison, Willard, Bobb and maybe Elder and Sargent.

It's easy to believe the stereotypes and rumors, labeling dorms as strictly party dorms or studious dorms. Every dorm has a little bit of both, but it is true that Bobb is quite an active dorm while Slivka is quieter. Also, they should not be derogatory terms as everybody thinks they are, i.e. "anti-social" is not bad, neither is "crazy." It obviously depends on your personality. Some of the less-known and less popular dorms are actually really nice.

But overall, lilybbloom is correct in her descriptions of the dorms. I live in Elder, an all-freshman dorm, this year and I love it (except for the fact that it's sooooo far North). It's a pretty active dorm but you can always find some quiet space/time to study.
