Thanks for pointing that out, I got the base 10 plan at first because there is the upgrading option. I will probably mostly eat off-campus then...but will it be extremely difficult without a car?

yes, yes it will. All the good eats are pretty far away from campus (3 miles) but there is the UV, which is right next to campus, it has decent food.

and i agree whole heartedly with nimeshshah, the food is terrible. as my old RA said, "the food gets worse and worse as the school year progresses."

Nimeshah: "It's the same food everyday no variety, and it's unhealthy as can be."

No it's not, you just don't go to both AI and Lothian, I'm thinking you're eating at Lothian all the time cause that's where everyone goes. Why? Simple. American's love that grease. You can debate it all you want unless you're a health freak or a vegetarian but it's true. Also Lothian residents are lazy to walk to AI and viceversa, even Pentland people prefer Lothian over AI cause of their own reasons. Most second years agree that AI tastes a lot better than Lothian's grease and it really is a whole lot of it. So if you very well know that both AI and LO serves different food each day, I don't understand that statement that you made that it's the same everyday.

I can't comment on the use of the dining dollars cause I don't even know. But I do know that you can use them at the C-stores in AI LO and PH and not just for only food but the main PURPOSE is for food so you can use them at the C-store on main campus and the eateries there.

hobofromdowntown:"the food gets worse and worse as the school year progresses."

That was true before the the whole dining change. As I have noticed that it has pretty much stayed constant at least the first year of operation of this new dining system.

For the both of you: if you even bothered to do the survey from the card office or whatever that survey was (I can't think of the name). The card office is trying to greatly expand the use of the dining dollars or was it the money on the account (I cannot differentiate which right now). So your card will be good for most places around campus, probably within a 1 mile radius if you take a look at the options the card office gives you. All you need to do is vote. But I'm sure that wont matter to both of you anymore. You both are really picky eaters because I've heard the exact opposite, about 50/50, "the food's not that bad" sometimes "it's good."

Panda: Tell me how you see it from the start and 1 year from now. It really depends if you're a picky eater and how well you're enjoying yourself in the dorms in general.

nxs you must work for UCR, because I have yet to meet a person who promotes the junk they serve? As for your counter argument against variety I don't who you are trying to convince...AI is always mexican food on the left(quesadillas, tacos, rice, beans) for lunch, and rice and meat for dinner. and some sort of stir fry on the right the only thing that changes is the sauce, and for lunch it is usually a grilled cheese with fries, coleslaw, and other crap. Lothian always has pizza, everyday you can have pizza at lothian lunch or dinner. for lunch lothian is either pasta or stir-fry (both equally *ty) and some sort of burgers; sliders, cheeseburgers, gardenburgers (trust me it gets old really quick) and for dinner its about the same thing, sometimes the burger will be replaced with grilled cheese or turkey melt...Regardless none of this food is good for your body. Oh you always have an option to make your own salad and get fruit, but most college kids aren't too fonds of salads. Another area where you are wrong nxs is that I live in AI. But yes I am a vegetarian, and these people do not give a * about vegetarians, so veggies and vegans get the cheapest possible meal plan. Anyways save your cash, get base 10 and add bear bucks, they are better than dining dollars and cost the same.

UCR's Reshall Menu http://138.23.50.239/foodpro/location.asp I'm always shocked that no one uses this menu but it helps in deciding where you want to eat that day.

Let's see, you're vegetarian, yet you give your own opinions on "most" of the food there. If you look at the day to day menu, tell me it all stays the same? Maybe you're forgetting the "themes" at where you get your food from. Maybe you should be reminded that each place only specializes at their food. You don't expect to have a pizza kitchen serve you prime rib.

Hey, my heart goes out to you for not having enough vegetarian options but that's your job to complain to dining. I know one thing for certain is that one of the staff members brought up the lack of fish and BAM the next week there was fish available. But then again, you're vegetarian, it is really hard to accomodate your needs because you said it yourself, which college student actually gives a rats ass about healthy food (salad) eh?

You know, I had a chance to go to UCSD a few weeks ago and ate their "dorm" food and let me tell you. The stuff I ate (I'm assuming it was a bad time to eat) was worst than the "junk" they serve at UCR.

I get a feeling that you're not enjoying your time here at UCR. In fact, I think you hate it. I searched your posts and found that you're transferring. Congratulations :) I hope you do well and hope that they suite your vegetarian needs there.

Hey, you're half right. I use to work for UCR, you know one of those RA/RSA/PC type of jobs. Man, for those of you reading and want to get an insider on that, I sure have a lot to tell. But you know, I'm not a promoter of their food, but I do miss it now and then. Sure I've had my days of this is utter *****, what are they trying to feed me, and got bored of this and that. Isn't that natural to get bored of eating the same thing over and over again? Isn't it natural to not like something. But to call everything junk is just absurd.

For you not meeting even 1 person that says their food is "okay" is ridiculous. Do you expect Iron Chef work here? Look at how much they have to feed in such a little period of time? Just picture yourself, you know you can try, cooking for 1 person, a love one then try cooking the same thing for a party of 100 people? Wouldn't the taste get numb down ? Wouldn't it not taste the same?

Boils down to what I've said. Either you're an extremely picky eater or you're not enjoying your stay at UCR one bit to pick on anything you don't like and blow it up.
Of course you're vegetarian and it's hard to "choose" from different things at UCR, but if you don't like how something taste like, move on, try something else you're tolerable with.

You know, I'll agree. Go and get the base 10. Change when you want to. You want to know what's funny? I've got people offcampus when I was working for UCR about meal plans for people off campus. The 5 meals per week plan.

I was right you work for UCR, im just saying whats on my mind and most freshman that I have met in all three halls. Anyways lie to future students if you want, but don't go reading my other posts and stalk me.

what does not liking UCR have anything to do with the food? you think our hatred for UCR extends so much that it affects our palate for food? I'm not sure what the changes they made this year but if th efood was anything like last years, it should taste like ass. Even my friends that are dorming says there's not much improvement.

Sure, why can't it extend as far as that? Food is necessary for you to live so we consume it everyday. It's part of the whole experience. And for something that you do everyday - you hate - there's a good reason for you to not like the school even more.

You know I've never lied to future students as you say again. I'm not biased - I've told you goods and bads.

And lol? Me stalk you? I would agree if I had to manually search all your posts, but having it so convienient to look at your posts on this forum with 1 click vs. others and your attitude changes significantly. It just gives me a little flavor at what kind of a person you are. I believe you call this research. But hey, you know my name I have nothing to hide, go facebook me, add a few more x's and you'll have my AIM SN. PUH-leez.

You were right that I workED for UCR. Why did you think I resigned if I liked my position? Shouldn't I be anti-UCR now too?
