Dorms

I've been accepted to Tulane, and I'm checking out the housing right now. Which dorms are the best all around? I'm sure there's an academia dorm, a party dorm, an athletic dorm, etc. I'm just trying to figure out the identity of each dorm before I pick. Any input would be really appreciated! Also, does anybody know about the Wall Residential College? What's that like? Thanks in advance!

sharp and monroe- fun, party dorms
butler- honors dorm, very academic
wall- pretty cool/offbeat people, really nice rooms. not too much partying.
JL- all girls, these girls don't really tend to go out as much
patterson- healthy living, don't really know much about it or anyone in it

Sharp and Monroe: freshman party dorms. Monroe is a nicer building than Sharp (although nothing special).

Butler: honors dorm. Butler is really quiet, which is nice. The building isn't any nicer than Monroe or Sharp, but it is right across from Bruff (dining hall).

JL: all-girls dorm. There are some really chill JL girls (these are often the ones who were placed their against their wills). There are a lot of really weird JL girls, too. Lots of lesbians, of course. I think JL is pretty cool tho because the girls there feel a deep sense of community and being there is kind of like a year-long slumber party. Any male visitor needs to swipe in at the front desk no matter the time of day, which is kind of annoying. The building is really old but really beautiful. The ballroom is great and each room has a sink , which is handy. JL has the old-school dorm layout and I really kind of like it. JL is close to the bars and the Newcomb Quad where a lot of classes are, but it's far from Reilly (athletic center), Bruff (dining hall) and the Academic Quad, where a lot of classes are.

Wall: residential college. Wall is hands down the best dorm on campus. Everyone on campus thinks so. I live in Wall, and all of my friends are jealous of me for it. I know tons of people who don't even live in Wall, but they spend all of their time there just because it's so nice. We have two study lounges on each floor, two common rooms with kitchens on each floor, two laundry closets on each floor, and the rooms are arranged in suites, each with a bathroom. Wall has a lot of events, such as Christmas parties, banquets, election parties, and lots more. Every floor has balconies which are really social and there is even a sun deck which is the perfect place to tan under the New Orleans sun. Wall has a strong sense of community, and there are a broad range of people there from intense partiers to intense studiers. Wall is right across the new quad from Bruff (dining hall), which is really handy. APPLY to live in Wall! You will regret it if you don't. It's worth an application, even if you don't get in.

Paterson: wellness dorm. Paterson is a pretty nice facility. The rooms feel really homey with wood furniture, which is nice. The people who live there seem to be a bit different, but it's a really small dorm so I only know a few people who live there. There is a sink in each room, which is a plus.

Butler's kinda diagonal from Bruff...

But otherwise I agree with the above assessment.

Will it alter the freshman experience if a freshman lives in Wall? Like as far as socializing and stuff?

Does butler have kitchens?

I'm pretty sure they do. My "fluffy" friend who lives in Butler is always baking brownies...

And Wall is really nice, but day to day interaction seems like it really takes a hit. I'd say Wallians are more like a "family". They don't really meet unless it's a special occassion, and they usually get along, but the Wallians I know have a secret vandetta with one another. But living in Wall is a good choice and it's worth at least applying for it.

Do any not have hall bathrooms? I really hate the idea of having to use a public bathroom for four years of my life.

I think Wall doesn't (can anyone verify that?). In which case, I think we should both apply to live there :D

yeye so we can party every day tbh :D

tulane is creeping up on my list. im no so sure about brown anymore....even if i got accepted could i deal with all those fkin liberals..

hmmn i think its between brown/tulane/rochester(if they give merit aid)/emory

i think those are my top 4, with tulane tied for 1 with brown (unless emory gives good aid)

Haha, I hate to break it to you, but chances are Tulane's gonna be up there on the "good aid" list! I haven't heard of Emory being very good with FA (at least I hope not, since I've gotten too lazy to apply there haha)

I'm gonna be at Tulane next year - almost positive!!!! I'm visiting next week to make sure!

HAHAHAH... Brown is like the most liberal school ever!!!! EVER!

Go to Tulane. Apply/live in Wall with me haha.

Back to topic though: I'm going to seriously consider Wall. I was pretty sure I wanted to be in Monroe, but if Wall has nicer dorms, then maybe it's worth considering, plus the application doesn't look too hard, but it probably scares people away.

what is so good about monroe lol

Nothing really. I just figured that I wanted freshman year to be in a really social dorm so I could easily make friends with all my floormates (get the "freshman experience") - so that would leave it up to Sharp and Monroe... and Monroe's supposed to be nicer.

I'm a social person, so I'd be fine with a social/"party" dorm... I'll do my homework in the library haha.

But I've heard vomit / gross stories about the halls and such, and I'm not sure I want to deal with that either. haha.

As a liberal, I feel that it is incumbent upon me to ask why it is that you can't imagine yourself dealing with the liberals of Brown fromthesouth? What's the matter with liberalism?

Well the way I see it is, quit ****ing and moaning about peoples rights every time something happens. It is annoying as hell. I'm atheist, I support gay marriage, I'm pro-choice, but I sure as hell am not a big liberal like they are. I'm independent..I just find liberals almost as annoying as conservatives.

So, would speaking out against Israel's recent Gaza incursion qualify as "*****ing and moaning about people's rights," because, quite frankly, if you're annoyed by protests against slaughter, well.....

Oh no I'm pretty anti-Israel.

And I mean stuff like "this woman spilled coffee on herself, as a liberal I must make it a big deal and create a lawsuit"

If you're anti-Israel, strike Tulane off your list.

I'm not anti-Israel, per se, but I disagree with some of Israel's tactics, particularly in response to a conflict it provoked.

I'm totally against frivolous lawsuits, by the way. The Liebeck "coffee" case was ridiculous.

My post was a response to fromthesouth, not TT.

Yeah isn't 30% of Tulane's undergrad population Jewish?
