For anyone not sure, there's a ton of threads on the first page of the "Helpful threads" post about dorms. Some are really, really good overviews of the pros and cons of each freshman dorm.

I wrote post #5 in this thread a few years ago but it's still accurate to my knowledge.

Furnald or John Jay

go here, nothing's changed since then.

why, what a brilliant suggestion, CC! I heartily concur with your advice.

:D

It's still pretty accurate save for a few things that I'd like to add

The Carman lounge is NOWHERE near as nice as the JJ/LLC Lounges. I've never stepped foot into Furnald.

Roof access is now wayy restricted... as in.. it's impossible. The RAs are required to check the roof door every time a fire alarm goes off.

Minor thing about Carman... the outlets are in really odd places and you only get 4 per room.

JJ only does 2 meals ... brunch and dinner. JJ is convenient nonetheless

Soundproofing in Carman isn't great either... but it's downright bad in JJ

Since the War on Fun, Carman parties get broken up pretty easily unless you're smart about it. (Hint.. close the suite door, serve alcohol out of the bathroom.)

Did they stop doing breakfast during exams? They did that during my freshman year (2 years ago...)
