double and triple majoring

Just wondering.. what percentage of Cornell students double major and what percentage triple major. Triple majoring is really uncommon right?

Triple majoring would be near impossible; I came in with 47 AP credits and it would still be VERY hard for me to triple, at least in only eight semesters. If you're in arts, then you have pretty much nil chance of tripling in 8 semesters because they don't let AP's fulfill distribution requirements/etc. For engineering, it MIGHT be possible to pull of if you were interested in three different branches of engineering but scheduling would get difficult - it isn't just the number of classes per semester you have to take, you have to consider that a lot of classes meet at the same time so you can't take everything you'd need to. It isn't hard, though, to double major or even double major and minor, as long as you have substantial AP credit - I'm double/dual majoring and getting an MEng in 8 (with a lot of schedule conflicts, this semester at least - but if you're good at learning without going to class, you can definately get away with huge conflicts).

dont triple major at Cornell. Not only would it be close to impossible to fit in all of the classes you'd have to take, you wouldn't have any time for some fun electives. you'd constantly be busy. IMO, not worth it.

and you wouldn't have time to have fun either.

many students double major though. like not 40% or anything, but certain programs that are a lot more about passion than practicality, like music (that's me) have a lot of double majors.

Cornell (at least arts) makes it incredibly easy to double major. you just apply for the major you want. (applying consists of taking certain prereq classes for the major and getting a B in them or w/e) So to double in music and economics, I take the necessary Music prereq courses and do decently in them, take the necessary econ prereqs and do decently in them and then just apply for each major individually. No special notifying administration about a double major or paying an extra fee or anything.

yea I def dont want to triple major I was just curious. But.. question: I'm interested in majoring in English and when I was looking at the requirements it said that majoring in English involves taking only ten courses. How can that be right? Does anyone know any Eng majors

music major and econ major as 12-14 courses i believe, physics is like 16 or 18. some majors have more stuff that others.

it's a liberal arts education in CAS, and that means you are supposed to expand your mind in all the core areas of knowledge ranging from history to science to math to philosophy. 12 to 14 courses on one subject is a big number compared to the 1 or 2 you'll take in everything else. you're not going to CAS to study english...you're going to study everything and focus on english. afterall you're going to take around 40 courses here...that means at least 1/4 of those courses will be in your primary field of study, and since you like english you can take a lot more there.

Oh, thats cool. I dont know why I thought the requirements would be heftier. Thanks for filling me in sparty.

Take classes in the two areas you are most interested in. You'll find that you like one more than the other, and major in that one, and minor in the other.

If you really want to double (or triple, agghh) major, then go for it, but you'll be missing out on a lot of other things cornell has to offer.

no no no. I never wanted to triple major! haha, i was just curious if anyone does that. I dont even know if I wanna double major.
