Double Degree at Pitt how does this work?

Hey guys, I have a question about double degree programs that someone might be able to answer. I am very interested in going for a BA in environmental studies and a BS in ecology and evolution at Pitt. However, I'm not at all interested in going to Pitt unless I can get both of these degrees - a BS is an absolute necessity but I really want the diversity that the BA has. Does anyone know how the application and acceptance process would work? As in, will I know that I have been accepted for both majors before I decide to attend Pitt? Also, I would have to take 17 credits a semester; any thoughts on how difficult this would be with a fair amount of Bio classes? I personally feel that I could handle it but wanted some outside opinions. Also, I know I'm behind but I'm applying for Fall 2015 semester.

I have a dual major at Pitt in Politics and Philosophy and Information Science with minors in Computer Science and Economics. The dual major will take 150 credits minimum for graduation and I advise you keep above a 2.5 GPA. On 17 credit semesters it is possible but will take a chunk of AP credits and maybe a summer to pull off in 4 years. Not sure how your particular majors work but I have a BA and a BS and they are from different schools so I had to apply to each school separately. You majors both exist in Dietrich Arts and Sciences so you shouldn’t have to. 17 credit semesters can be daunting so I suggest speaking with an advisor about how to properly do so. Expect a lot of long nights for a while. You’ll have to go through a fair amount of challenging Bio classes and other sciences at the same time. These are no AP Bio classes in high school. The exam average is often in the 60’s and the classes you’ll take are major weedouts for pre-pharm and pre-med students. They’ll take a lot of time and work.
