I am applying to brown, im in an extremely rigorous ib magnet at the best school in my state. i get decent grades, 3.7 unweighted gpa, taking all the toughest classes, and both my parents go there, do interviews, and donate yearly. Will i likely get in? and if i didnt have the legacy would i get in? thanks

went there. haha my parents are not still in college

it will help. it won’t get you in, but it does help.

I know several double legacy candidates, all extremely strong students with high grades and SATs and strong dedication to interesting ECs, who did not get in. All six parents were active and generous alums.

I haven’t seen this year’s statistics, but in the recent past about one-third of legacy applicants were accepted. That is much higher than the general pool – but still, 2/3 did not get in.

I have a friend, single legacy, who had similar grades who got in ED. He did have really high standardized test scores which made up for his below average GPA.
