Double major and working

So I got into my top school which is great, but I’m having difficulty deciding what to pursue once I get there. I want to go into lobbying/political consulting when I graduate, so I’m majoring in political science. I also wanted to major in history, just because I have a passion for it. I also know it’s essential to make connections if you’re going to do well in the world of politics, so I’d like to do some internships while I’m at school. I’ve heard a lot of talk about how difficult it can be to juggle a double major, a job, and a social life, but I wanted to know if anyone had any advice for my specific scenario.

How hard it is really depends on your requirements. A double major doesn’t necessarily have to be any more difficult than a single major - it’s just that often instead of taking electives you are taking the classes in your secondary field. You’re not necessarily taking MORE classes, just taking DIFFERENT classes. You can do the bulk of your internships over the summer and keep any academic year work to 10-15 hours a week. That should make things doable.

Also, you don’t have to major in political science to be a lobbyist or political consultant. You could major in history by itself if you wanted. You could add political science as a minor, or just take a few classes.
