Is a double major worth it?

Freshman here, I am currently deciding if a double major would be beneficial to me than if I decided to major in Economics and minor in Political Science. I have currently taken four classes first semester and am taking four classes this semester but for some reason I am worried I should be taking more this semester in order to double major. However, my parents told me not to until sophomore year because the courses during the first semester have been stressing me out since I was studying too much rather than enjoying the social aspect of college… Any advice and tips would be appreciated! I don’t know if I plan to go to business school or law school in the future but I wanted to see if a double major would affect it as well as job prospects.

A double major vs. a major and a minor isn’t that big of a deal, IMO. I don’t think it would give you a boost with job prospects nor is it worth taking extra classes for. If you can make it work with a normal course load and it is something you wish to do, go for it. But it’s not worth busting your hump for.

Depends.

  1. Do you think the jobs you're interested in are relevant to both economics AND political science?
  2. How much longer would it take you to graduate?
