"Would there really be any benefit in double majoring?

Not for admission to law school.

Whether a double major will affect GPA depends on individual and credits going in. If you have a number of AP or IB credits going in and thus can still complete in four years with a normal college schedule, it is not overly difficult. If what you are contemplating is taking the maximum 17 or 18 credit hours per semester or even more just so you can double major then good chance exists GPA could be affected. In August, colleges are full of beginning freshman who believe they can take on any schedule and most by December realize that there ego was 10 times larger than their common sense.

Nope. It maybe be considered as a bit of a soft factor, and I cant stress enough the “maybe” portion of it. The same way that soft factor wise a major in basket weaving will not look as pretty as say, history, or biology with the same high GPA, a double major may look prettier, but still, its not gonna help you much.

Now, all that sounds pretty. But if you cant handle the tough courseload of a double major, then its gonna hurt you far more than any benefit. Hes right there, when he says people try to take on any schedule. If you are a freshman, take on 15 credits on an hourly schedule thats confortable for you (morning person? Take morning classes. Hate waking up early? Dont get classes prior to 10 AM, etc.). On a personal note, I once took an 18 credit semester, and while I came out well, it burned me out so much, that I dont intend to do it again.
