I would like to double major in finance and computer science, and was wondering if that was possible at SDSU while being able to graduate in 4 years. I have 6 GE classes completed already.
And I would have to have the honors minor
Double majors are possible if you have a large overlap of classes between the two majors but I think it will be pretty difficult unless you take summer session every year to make the 4 year graduation target. My son at SDSU was thinking of doing a CS major with a Business minor and was still not able to fit in all the courses just to the fairly rigid course curriculum for CS. I would look at the courses needed for each major and see if you can work out a plan 4 year plan fitting in all the courses needed. You might want to consider a finance minor instead. Here is the link to the My Maps for all the SDSU majors which gives you a 4 year plan for each major of interest.
My son had AP credit for 5 courses at SDSU and will graduate on time 4 years even with taking some summer session classes and no minor. CS courses are very project heavy and you spend a lot of time out of class doing work, so you do not want to overload your schedule.
What is it that you would like to do in the future?
@texcalmom most likely financial engineering in graduate school. If not then I am not sure, so I want to have options which I believe finance/CS would give me.
@cocoonutty I would consider going for just CS, focusing on internships junior/senior year, and then getting your Masters in business or finance.
