Double major but lower GPA? (Wharton)

I have deferred my enrollment to Wharton for a year due to personal reasons. I have been planning to concentrate in Finance and perhaps a second concentration in either Management or Real Estate. However, I will be spending much of this year learning Chinese and taking math classes at a local college, gaining valuable credits, if I wanted to, towards a Math degree also. Now I have a question.

Will a double major in Mathematics and BS in Econ (Finance) from Wharton, but with a lower GPA somewhere around 3.4, compensate for a higher GPA, such as something like 3.6, in a BS in Econ (double concentration in Finance and Management) from Wharton?

Is it worth for me to try to take up another major but risk a lower GPA, specifically come recruiting time? come MBA time? come 10 years down the line time?

Thanks for all replies.

sent you a PM

^I wanted to know the answer to this question too!

Before you even start college, you can't be making any informed estimates of what your GPA is going to be. Feel it out as it becomes relevant. In theory, what you like more, you will be better at. There is no answer to your question anyway since GPA is only piece of the puzzle as far as job chances are concerned; obviously moreso for grad schools admissions, save MBA where there will be little difference between a 3.6 vs 3.4 in comparison to what else you offer.

You are probably good enough just with the Wharton degree but don't forget that you are going to WHARTON - companies want you. You should study math because you want to/find it interesting/want to develop your thinking skills and not be overly concerned about your GPA. But, I agree with the above guy who said that you can't estimate what your GPA is going to be... think about it 1/2 of the wharton class is below average right
