I'm aware that when you apply to transfer you have to put one major and later petition to double major when you're at your UC of choice. So I am assuming as one Common Application is used, I cannot choose to apply to certain UC's as a Political Science major because I think I have a better chance of getting in with that major and apply to other UC's as an Economics major, right?

So would it be better to apply as a PoliSci major and optimize my attempts to get into UCLA/Cal, and attempt to double major in Econ in one of the other UC's if i don't get into UCLA/Cal, OR to apply as an Econ degree in the first place and lower my chances of getting into UCLA/Cal but assuring I major in Econ and then doubling in PoliSci?

Thanks for your advice in advance. And If my question is too confusing or something feel free to ask for more!

i would say apply as an econ major. it will be extremely hard and might not even be possible to add econ as a major once you are in as a poli sci major (for ucla/cal).

I’ve personally heard from two people it’s not that difficult to add Econ at Cal even if you come in as a different major (and they both were able to successfully add it). Furthermore at UCLA, if you do excellent (3.9+ avg) in the core Econ classes (11/101/102) you can add it despite not transferring as an econ major.

Demand for this major significantly exceeds space available. You must be admitted directly into this major; you will not be able to change to this major after admission to UCLA. Students are classified as Pre-Economics until they complete the preparation courses.

no, it really isn’t possible at UCLA. i have a 3.956 GPA, and they said it is impossible to switch/add to econ. i had all prereqs too. (also tried it for psych, to no avail.)

if interested in ucla, apply to econ.
like peter said, demand exceeds space available & you won’t be able to change into.
