I would like to know about the difficulty of a double major. Also, is it possible to pursue a double major and also have time to participate in extracurricular activities?

It honestly depends on which majors.

Political science and history? Easy. Political science and MCD Bio? Not so much.

I was thinking along the lines of comp sci. and business economics.

how about business econ and communication studies?

Well, comp sci and business econ are both hard majors without any overlap. I’d probably recommend going for a minor instead because of how different these fields are.

If you’re more interested in computer science, you can take the computer science management electives with a CS major. If you’re more interested in business economics, there’s the specialization in computing.

LOL Engineering and Math. Easy. Political Science and Physiological Science. Nice try.

What about a double major and a minor? Is that even possible? And how can you apply for a double major. I’m planning on majoring in Poli-Sci and History while having a minor in Middle-Eastern Studies.

Yeah, it’s definitely possible. I even know a triple major.

so how can you petition to have a double major??

Finish prereqs for both majors and two upper divs. Then you go talk to your counselor and to the departments for the majors.

How about… Business Economics and Applied Mathematics?

astenus,

potentially stupid question, but what the hell :)) ---- should you finish the prereqs for both majors during freshman year? And on top of that, I should also enroll at classes needed for the general reqs?

@Tatztasic, That is what I’m going to dual major in. I’ve just started my upper divs for bus/econ and I’m going to finish my math prereqs in the summer/next year. It seems doable, but I can’t really comment on the workload since I have not really devled into any math classes.

@Fromcalwithlive, usually people finish their prereqs their second year.
I have a lot of AP credit and I’m going to finish my bus/econ prereqs at the end of this year(my first year), and during the second quarter of my second year I’ll be done with my math prereqs. You need to also fulfill requirements such as writing I, writing II, GE’s, etc. Some people take 3 classes each quarter for their first year, but I’ve taken 4 for my second and third quarter, along with summer classes.

@Astenus,

Thanks for the info. Should I also inform/talk to someone if I plan to have a double major and a minor or just finish the prereqs? As of now I’m listed as a pre political science major so should I do anything now?
