You can definitely double major in engineering and business, but like people have stated, you have to choose which major you’ll start at UT with. Because of the limited space in McCombs and the Engineering schools, UT only allows freshmen to declare 1 major out of the gate (otherwise many other students would get shut out of their chosen major/school because 1 student is taking up 2 spots–makes sense?). When you get to UT, however, you can pick up a second major, usually after your first semester.

It’s true that you cannot do BHP and EH in your first year, however, BHP does have a sophomore application process. Since EH does not require any extra classes, it’s feasible to do both, but to do a full Engineering degree and business degree, you’ll probably be in undergrad for more than 4 years because of the sequential nature of both degrees (prereqs required to move forward with your degree plan).

And finally, if you want to do both, you can. If salary is your aim, then you’re not going to be happy in either. It’s true PE majors make around 85K out of the gate, and BHP students get around 65K on average. However, you should understand that combining both degrees will be a lot of work, and if you hate the classwork, you’ll hate our career. Salary is nice, but it shouldn’t be what guides your decision of what to do in life.

I hope this helps!
