Double major. In Civil and environmental engineering

I was wondering if double majoring in environmental and civil engineering is worth it. Im almost done with the environmental part but feel it will be a waste ti not do civil because half of the classes are the same. Its only an extra year or so. So would it help in the work force if i have an FE for both. Or is it looked down in the field

An extra year is a lot. Between tuition and not delaying your income, you’re looking at a difference of over $100k. There’s no tangible benefit to having a major in both civil engineering and environmental engineering, although many colleges combine the two.

You only take the FE once. It doesn’t matter which test you take as there’s no distinction once you pass.

If I were you, I’d focus on taking more electives in environmental engineering to deepen your knowledge (if you want to pursue environmental engineering after college).

Most schools would not allow it, as the curriculum is too similar. Make sure it’s an option at your school (it could be). It’s more common to see a Civil engineering major with a focus on environmental (or a minor).

Talk with your major’s undergraduate advisor, they have a much better sense of your school’s policies and what options have worked in the past for other students.

Agree with Ken - take more design/analysis classes in your area of interest. Employers like that.
