Just started looking a bit at Elon. Can a student major in Communications and then have a second major in the College of Arts and Science? Do you have to apply to one school when initially applying?
Based on the campus information session students can major and minor in various disciplines. I remember a student mentioned she had 4 uniquely different majors/minors.
@FlyingSouth thanks! So different majors even across different schools? For instance, could one be a communications and psychology double major with Communications being in the communications school and psych being in the college of arts and science?
You don’t have to declare when applying, I think that is done sometime sophomore year. I can’t answer your other question 100% but at info sessions, most of the presenting students had at least double majors that seemed to vary widely. BTW their Communications school seems to be very strong and very popular.
@homerdog , my son and I have visited Elon about a half dozen times since early this year. My understanding is students are offered a opportunity to double-major and major-minor from a wide variety of offerings. The students we met all seemed to list at least 1 major and 1 minor, with several listing double majors or a single major with 2 minors.
The only thing I’m not certain of is if it possible to double major across schools. I don’t know that it is not possible, but I cannot remember directly hearing that it is possible.
@EconPop thanks. I assumed one could double major in majors within a college. You can do that at any school. Maybe I’ll just have D21 reach out to the admissions office. If we find out then I’ll report back!
@homerdog - yes you can. My D is looking at Biology at Elon (but tosses around various double majors including Spanish) so we asked at a college fair. This page pretty much tells it like it is - crossing schools can be done but to get all the requirements, it takes planning and awareness beginning as early as Freshman year.

OK - I just realized all her possible double majors are within Arts and Sciences, but this page talks about double majoring in education, so I’m still pretty sure it can be done.
@3kids2dogs but all of those majors are within the College of Arts and Science at Elon. I’m wondering if one can do a communications major (in their Communications College) and then double major in something like psych or poli sci in the CAS.
Found it!

looks like they actually like when the communications kids double major outside the Communications College.
Yes - edited my comment when I realized that. Glad you found what you needed!

There was no mention of any restrictions on majoring across any of the schools within the college. We came away with the feeling that it is encouraged that students, especially freshmen to major in those areas that they may want to explore and taper towards a solid choice once they identify what piques their interest most.
My daughter is a sophomore at Elon and is double majoring in communications and political science (two different schools). You can declare after first semester freshman year ( which she did) but you do not have to declare that early if you are not ready.
