Double major in engineering and business?

Is this a viable option at Duke?

Well, since Duke doesn’t offer a business major…

But yes, there are students who manage to pull of the engineering-Econ double major.

Yeah I just read about that lol…
There is a markets & management degree though, no? Can I do engineering + that?

Markets and Management is only offered as a certificate program, not a major. Yes, it’s certainly doable to do engineering + M&M. To be honest, M&M is seen as a very easy program and is not that highly respected, but some people find the courses interesting so there’s certainly nothing wrong with doing it matches your interests. The M&M faculty is largely composed of sociology professors.

Engineering + econ as a double major is fairly common and will put you in high demand by firms. Thus, it’s a more popular combination. There’s also a fairly new option (I think class of 2012 was the first to get a chance) to minor in Finance (which is in the economics department), which would probably be a good combination with engineering if you’re interested in going into i-banking or management consulting. The Pratt curriculum requires a lot, but is flexible enough so that double majoring in Trinity is decently common. I would recommend dabbling in a few different departments and see what piques your interest. I ended up majoring in BME and minoring in psychology (just because I found it interesting).

How would you do this? Would you apply to Pratt or Trinity?

Pratt. If you want to major in engineering at all, you MUST be enrolled in Pratt. Engineering is ALWAYS your first major. Pratt students are allowed to major in any Trinity program, but Trinity students cannot major in any Pratt program (although they are allowed to take engineering courses, but I’m not sure who would do such a thing.)

Alright thanks

MMS certificate is very easy. That’s not to say it isn’t useful or helpful, it’s just different, obviously. More “hands on”, if you will. My roommate did Egr + Econ double and it was very doable.
