Hey Everyone! I was just wondering if it was possible to double major... one from LSA and the other major being a type of engineering?

It’ll probably take longer than 4 years

yes it’s possible. how long it will take you depends on how many credits you come in with and how capable you are of taking full credit loads every semester. what specific majors are you looking at?

Ive got 24 Credits going in, and I scheduled 18 for the upcoming fall. As far as majors go… I was considering chemistry/BME or chemistry/ChemE. any thoughts?

you’ll be able to do it quite easily in 4 years then. i would not recommend doing the dual degree in majors that are so similar, though. if you are doing it because you think it will look impressive to recruiters or grad schools, then don’t do it. they will end up assuming that the degree requirements overlapped substantially and that it didn’t take much extra effort, regardless of whether or not that’s true. only do the dual degree if it’s actually adding value to your education.

yeah I was considering the ChemE/Chem just cause I really enjoy both the pure and applied aspects of chemistry, but I can see what you mean with the overlap (regardless of what actually was the case). Would you consider chem/BME one of those combos that are “too similar?”

what do you want to do after undergrad? that will largely determine what you should do. from what i know, BME at umich isn’t that chemistry-intensive (neither is ChemE, for that matter).
