Can you double major across schools at NYU? If I wanted to major in anthropology (CAS- my accepted school) and either major or minor in Communications (Steinhardt) is that possible?

You would have to switch to Steinhardt for communications (which would become your main school/department) and then declare your double major with anthropology at CAS. Basically, those who are in the "specialized" schools (Tisch, Stern, Steinhardt, College of Nursing, School of Social Work, etc.) can declare double majors in CAS; CAS students cannot declare double majors with these schools. A bit of red tape, but if you really wanted to do this, it's very possible--a CAS-Steinhardt transfer wouldn't be difficult.

You can minor in Communications, but not major.

So i can major in Econ at CAS and minor in international business in stern?

I don't think so because NYU restrict the amount of credits from taking electives out of CAS to 12 credits. A minor is generally 15-20 credits.

I was just accepted for transfer to Steinhardt for Fall 2008 and I was wondering if I am allowed to double major in Gallatin. I wanted to pursue Kinesiology (which is basically movement science) as well as Communications. Is this at all possible??

If you want to do both Kinesiology and Communications, you should probably attempt that as a student in Gallatin. You can't "double major" within Gallatin because there's no official major in Gallatin...it's all individualized study. The only school that you could do a double major in as a Steinhardt student is CAS.

Taiwaneseterror:

You can't minor in Stern if you're in CAS (except for the prebusiness minor).

i think NYU gives Stern students certain advantages over students in other schools in NYU, especially when it comes to double majoring because Stern students can pick a second major in almost any school, while students in other schools can never pick a second major in Stern

Uhhh, Stern kids can only double major in CAS.

The Tisch, Stern, Steinhardt, and College of Nursing students can only double major in CAS. They can't cross into each others' schools (for instance, a Stern/Steinhardt or Tisch/Steinhardt double major is impossible). As a CAS student, you can't double major in any other school but CAS...if you wanted to double major with something like Communications as a student of CAS, you would have to transfer to Steinhardt and then take up the second major in CAS. So basically, what youkosiren just said. It would be funny, though, to have see a person double major in Tisch and Stern haha.

I'm currently a senior starting in a couple of weeks, and I was wondering if you could double major in Communications and Music Theatre at Steinhardt? is it possible to do that, or shied away from?

Because both majors have such enormous requirements (one is a Bachelor of Science and one is a Bachelor of Music), it's not possible to double major within Steinhardt. However, if you wanted to maybe pursue a second major (minor would be easier) within CAS, that might be doable.

My home school is Steinhardt, picked up a second major last year in CAS. To my knowledge, you can’t have both majors in Steinhardt. And wow, this is a 6-year-old post! Hope it worked out for you! :)
