.Double Major.

Hey guys.

I'm currently a Junior attending a pretty strong catholic school in Brooklyn, and I'm planning on applying to NYU next year.

My true passion is film, and I am confident that I want to do this for my occupation. However, as everyone knows, getting a degree in the arts, especially in this economy, is suicidal basically-- especially with the amount of debt you'll have after attending a school like NYU.

I've been working w/ film since 6th grade, and I've gotten pretty damn good at most aspects of it such as lighting, editing, directing, screenwriting, etc.... so I know that after I get my degree it will be much easier for me to find work because of my previous experience, but still, it's a big risk in a time like this.

Well thankfully, I've discovered an involved interest that I have for Physics and the math behind it, which is weird considering that some previous math courses have been the banes of my existence. I guess my opinions have changed along with time....

but basically, I wanted to know what it would be like to double major in both of these fields. I feel like double majoring in physics and film would be great, because if for some reason I don't become the next Spielberg (lol), I have a Physics degree under my belt.

I'm concerned though, because while NYU would technically allow this weird combination, I'm not quite sure what the experience would be. NYU is well-known for both science and filmography, so I would imagine majoring in both here would be a bit more taxing than a "lesser"-known university, but I could be wrong of course. I'm also unclear as to how this would affect tuition, credit requirements, and application. Would I literally have to complete twice the credit requirements to get a BAs in Film and Physics? What courses would I have to take? And most importantly, could I survive it?

You have to go into Tisch for Film/TV first and then double major in physics in CAS. It will probably take longer than 4 years. But you HAVE to go into Film/TV as a freshman or you won’t be able to major in Film.

Yeah I understood that part from the Tisch website: if you want to double major in a tisch program and a program from another school, you have to be accepted to tisch first beforehand.

How much longer than 4 years would it take though?
