Is it possible to double major while on the pre-med track at UNC? How hard is it? I am planning on doing one humanities major (probably anthropology) and one STEM major (leaning towards either biology or stats).
I already have AP credits in chem, stats, calc BC, bio and Spanish.
"Pre-Med’ is just a bunch of classes that you have to take as pre-reqs for med school- you don’t have to have a STEM major. And no, it won’t “look better” or impress the med schools more.
Major in something you genuinely enjoy and are good at: you get the best grades and have the most fun. Then take the science classes you need for pre-reqs. Use your AP credits to take higher level classes: APs will NOT meet the pre-req requirements. but if you might be able to take a higher level Chem class and skip the 101 weed out.
Also, you don’t have to major in something you’re interested in, you can just take classes in it.
Anthropology can combine stem and humanities well, btw, since you have Biological Anthropology and Cultural Anthropology subfields.
You can major in anything and still go to med school. Just do the prerequisites either during college or, if you an afford it, a post-bacc program for premeds.
I know that I don’t have to major in STEM to be on the pre-med track. I was just wondering what the course-load would be like if I did double major. I really enjoy both bio and anthropology and I don’t want to just choose one.
