Hi everyone, recently I was admitted to IU in the School of Informatics & Computing under a CS major. Unfortunately, Purdue didn't feel I was up to their standards, so between IU and IUPUI, I'm narrowed down to two other options for college.

I was pretty dead set on going to IUPUI for awhile, maybe transferring to Purdue after a year, but something that I'm fascinated by is the requirements for admission into the Kelley School of Business. To get into Kelley after freshman year, I would have to take a lofty amount of business classes and average between a B and an A, from what I understand.

Business is a subject that interests me pretty heavily, and if it wasn't for CS, it's probably what I would be pursuing right now. I'm aware Kelley is one of the better business schools, and combined with an ambition for a CS degree, how ridiculous is an idea to go to IU, major in CS my first year w/business classes, and add a second major in Kelley my sophomore year? I'd just like some general opinions on if it's worth the cost, how much free time I can expect to have, how crazy of an idea this is, etc.

Thanks to everyone for your opinions and replies.

Thanks for the link Ace, missed that completely. But the thing is that I haven’t been admitted into Kelley, so I wouldn’t have a major my first year. Also, these classes are recommendations for co-majoring in another Kelley school major, such as Finance or Accounting. Unless you’re implying I take Computer Science and then Co-Major with Technology Management?

The issue with computer sciences is the threat of outsourcing. Therefore, you need a deep background in engineering, instrumentation/data acquisition, or business. Since you are also interested in business, Kelley offers a variety of fields you can specialize. Quite a few students are taking the tech management co-major in addition to their other Kelley major. The logic training in CS will greatly enhance your ability in supplier chain and process flow. There is no reason why you can’t try the standard admission into Kelley. It is not that hard if you are decent in math and computer sciences.

If that could be a possibility, check out the strategies in the following link. Don’t slack off this summer. You will have a good chance of getting in.
