I'd love to hear from Dr. Sedrish on this one...

I am thinking about majoring in sociology, but I also have an interest in health policy. At my school you can major in health policy, but only as a double major (you have to do something else also). There are 9 classes in the health policy major - 6 of which sound great and 3 of which sound kind of so-so...

The pre-med advisor here told me that I shouldn't do health policy if I don't want to do all the classes. She said I should just take the 6 I want to take and then 3 other classes not from health policy that interest me. She claims that no one will care about my major(s) later in life, especially after med school. Since I'm in Rice/Baylor, gettng into med school is not a huge concern, although I might consider applying out.

My mom says that I should grin and bear it and take the health policy major. Her reasoning is that if I decide to go into administration or policy, the double major will be very helpful, especially if I want to go to grad school in the field (MPP, etc.). I'm not planning on that right now, but I suppose things could change in the next several years.

Thoughts?
