I am really interested in philosophy as well as law. Those two also kind of go hand-in-hand. I want to major in philosophy but i am aware the job outlook for a philosophy degree is poor. That is why I am also thinking accounting, so....

Opinions on double majoring accounting/philosophy? People with one of these majors?

I figured you can get a CPA and guaranteed a job as an accountant, and with philosophy major you could do better than the average person in law school,as well as enrich your life.

Why not take accounting as a major with a philosophy minor? The idea behind philosophy for law is to teach critical thought. You don’t necessarily need a major for that.

You’ll need a master’s degree in accounting (or at least something like 30 graduate credits) to become a CPA.

What about a double in math and philosophy or major in math minor in philosophy? Those two subjects also go hand-in-hand, and math will open a number of doors.

Math isn’t really my strongest subject, plus I don’t even know what kind of jobs you’d be able to have with a math degree, but im sure nothing I’d like.

You need a masters to earn a CPA?

Think I’m favoring the accounting major/philosophy minor route as of now.

Personally, being a double major (philosophy and politics), minor in psychology and sociology, I would never give up my philosophy major for a minor. There’s a huge difference in the amount of learning one does a minor or a major; and a number of classes (at least at NYU) are only open to philosophy majors.

NYU, if i wasn’t looking at money, job outlook, etc. I would probably choose exactly what you did; philosophy/politics.

Those are by far my favorite subjects, but i feel like that isn’t the best way to go for someone like me who doesn’t have the money to spend on a degree or two that isn’t a great job outlook/decent money.

I’m starting to gain a lot of interest in accounting due to the fact that getting a CPA basically guarantees you a decent right afterwards and I think I could be successful in it. It also seems to open a ton of doors.

I dont really know what im interested in as far as more specific accounting types haha. Although I think i probably would be interested in tax law.

If I want a masters in accounting, would it take more time and/or be a good amount more difficult to get a bachelors in philosophy?

math and philosophy majors are both like the top two majors that score well on the LSAT (or something close to that), so if you’re interested in law, those would be the way to go.

More and more I think about it, the less i want to become a lawyer. Especially after reading that “bad news law school” article or whatever its called.

But nonetheless,i want a major or minor in philosophy just because philosophy wouldn’t just be a class for me… it would be a hobby
