Double majoring?

I was just offered 12,000 a year from the engineering school, but they told me that it only applied i I were to stay in the engineering school. I am not sure i want to do engineering, so my question is, at UMD, could I double major in an engineering discipline and something outside of the engineering school? (I know the workload would be hard) or could I minor in something outside of the engineering school as well? (Like government, for example)

anyone? Im sure some current students must know...

it would be really, really tough to double-major in engineering and something else. not just because of workload, but also scheduling. a lot of upper-level classes are only offered during one semester, at one time, particularly in LEP programs like engineering. you could definitely minor in something outside of engineering.

you also could consider some special programs or honors programs that let you take classes in other departments....... i'll give a shameless plug for an example-- the QUEST program is a joint 3-year program with engineering, business, and cmps students; focuses on quality enhancement, and can be very logistics/business focused depending on which elective classes you take.

yea, i think through the scholars program, i can take some classes in the school of music even though i'm majoring in accounting. this is great considering i auditioned to minor in music and didn't get in. this is assuming that i get into the scholars arts program. : )

congrats on the monster scholarship. not trying to repost but engineering is usually 90+ credit major as opposed to 75-80 for others. most students need to take above 15 credits a semester to finish it. even then taking all math/sci/eng classes is ridiculously difficult especially towards higher levels. double majoring might be pulled off but maybe not in 4 yrs or if u do, gpa could suffer. i wouldnt recommend double majoring, many ppl including advisors are against it since it doesnt help what its worth in terms of jobs or grad school. good luck

if I were to want to transfer to another college within UMaryland, how easy would it be to apply and receieve a scholarship from that school to offset the cost?

Yes you can double in engineering + something else (math, comp sci, physics, even accounting, philosophy anything ...)

double major requires at least 120 credits + required courses from both majors. Double degree is different, it requires 150 credits. You have 2 separate degrees.
