how much of mechanical engineering is drafton/solid modeling? I have a lot of experience in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD, and was wondering howmuch of that i would be using as a mechanical or aerospace engineer

I am not a MechE but I worked closely with several, and they spend a heck of a lot of time doing solid modeling. Not only will you eventually need it before you can order the actual build, but specialties like thermal modeling or CFD also require an accurate computer model before you can proceed.

ok thanks, do you know what programs they use?

I know they use SolidWorks, but I am not sure what else they use. Bear in mind that I cannot in any way guarantee how widespread SolidWorks really is outside my company.

mechanical engineers at my school use solidworks
