So here's the thing...

I'm a rising junior and I'm pretty big into Drama. In middle school I was in every play possible (even the musicals, despite my lack of singing ability). I have not been in any of the plays this year because a) most of them are musicals and they actually have cuts this year instead of just accepting everyone and b) I have recently developed a fear of rejection, so I'm not sure about auditions anymore.

However, I was looking into Studio Art and I thought that it would be something I'd enjoy. I've been told that I'm a great artist and I love any opportunity to showcase my creativity (as long as I'm comfortable in my surroundings).

I didn't take a Fine Art last year, so if I were to take Drama, I would take Drama 1 as a junior and then Advanced Drama as a senior, unless I decided to audition for Actor's Showcase which is the highest level of drama there is in my school. My boyfriend and a good friend of mine auditioned for that class so I'm waiting for their results to judge how rigorously each audition is judged.

If I were to take Studio Art, I would take it as a junior and then I would aim for AP Studio Art as a senior.

My question is this: should I stick with a class I love and had lots of experience with though I may not be able to feel comfortable enough in, or should I go for the class that looks appealing to me though I have had no experience with it?

Right now I'm kind of leaning towards trying out Studio Art. I suppose if I had to I could just get out there and audition for a play outside of Drama, and if I end up not liking Studio Art I could audition for Actor's Showcase as a senior anyways. But I want to hear your opinions first.

Choose for yourself. If you really really love drama, I think you should go for it. I, personally, have quit things I loved because I wasn’t very good at them and I was ashamed of that and I deeply, deeply regret it because I’m not able to re-join now. I think if you love theater then go for it. Find a counselor or somebody to help you get over your fear of rejection because I know you can. Think of auditions in a different light. I used to be super scared of choir auditions because I really really wanted to get into the best choir possible. But then I realized that I should just do the best that I can, and if they don’t want me, then they’re missing out. Practice a LOT and get more experience(be in more plays, even supporting/background roles are absolutely fine they will help you not hurt you) and you will be comfortable. You can do it!! :)

Also, for the audition fear, I have also been afraid of auditioning when I was into theater. I knew a friend that auditioned for shows knowing that she would quit(even if she got in). She just auditioned for auditioning, often with very little, last minute preparation and for shows that she would never get into. (like professional ones haha) I don’t know what I’m trying to say, but… just don’t stress about them. Just do it.

You make a good point.
I decided to join Studio Art for a year to see if I like it enough, because it really does interest me. However, I’m also going to audition for a play or two throughout the year to earn Drama credit and satisfy my acting needs.
If I end up not liking Studio Art, I’ll put myself out there and audition for Actor’s Showcase.
My boyfriend is very supportive of me and we were planning on auditioning for the next play together, so I will have him to help guide me through my fear.
