Hi,

I'm looking at colleges primarily for a Dramatic Writing program - however, acting has always been an equal passion of mine and the only reason I'm leaning on writing is because I think it's a field I need more classroom training for, so to speak. Still, giving up acting completely would make me rather sad, and therefore I'm looking for a college where I could either participate fully in the acting program (I could entertain notions of a double major), or at least participate in plays on a semi-regular basis.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Broadly speaking, most BFA programs are not designed for those with multiple interests. This never made much sense to me because it’s not always easy to pigeonhole a creative person. Nevertheless, that is how it is. These are professional programs and very focused.

For example, DePaul’s BFA in Theater Arts offers a broad selection of theater classes but provides main stage experience in assistant directing only. Directing, Playwriting, and Production at UArts offers only one minor in Musical Theater.

The many BA degrees will probably be more receptive to complexities and you may be more at home in one of these programs.

Drew University could be interesting for you.
