Okay I desprately want to go to Columbia and Ive already gotten my acceptance letter, but those dorms are sooo depressing. if you have taken a look at them on the website you will know what i mean. does anyone know what is the extent to what we can do to sprucen them up and ideas on what to do, etc.

Can you send a link to a dorm room picture?

use the arrows to find the hall ur looking for and u can view pics of the indoors.... like they look so bare.. ima shelf and furniture in my room kinda guy.. think they wouldnt allow those?

Actually, I didn't think they were so bad. ALL dorm rooms look bare before you bring your stuff in- and I know they allow stuff like futons, sofas, TVs, fridges, shelves, etc.

u think u have enough space for all of that stufff? lol..... thats my only gripe with them... i guess ill see how other people do their rooms when i got to diversity weekend.... i hope im not let down.

You don't really spend that much time in your dorm room anyway, or at least you don't have to. It's a comfortable place to sleep you can always relax, study, hang out in the lounge/library/student center, etc.

You'd be surprised what a little space management and nifty ergonomic design can achieve... I've personally witnessed all of the above in a one-room double in Carman.

Rugs, wall hangings, shot glass collections... whatever.. it's what YOU make of it.

I'll give you some help. I always like my rooms. Rugs and lamps and wall hangings are required. I don't even turn my room lights on. I just use lamps because they're so much nicer. Nothing worse than a weak flourescent or a stark ceiling light to make a room look crappy. And those curtains in the pictures on the website are really bad. I can sleep with light coming in from outside, so I'll probably just leave them open most of the time or take them down temporarily if I can.
