If they are looking for a chess player...YOU ARE A SHOE_IN!!! You are a very competitive applicant- nothing stands out that would hurt you so sadly as we all have seen these boards you''ll just have to apply and wait. You've done well for yourself and you should be proud...you have a great shot at all the schools on your list.

You should consider apply to the University of Maryland Baltimore County. It is a wonderful school (great math, science and technology) and has an incredible chess program. They even give full scholarships for chess.

hi, your stats are pretty solid. grades and SATs look great, but as for EC's, do you hold any leadership positions? students who apply to competitive schools such as Stanford, Cornell, and Duke need to differentiate themselves. but if you write really good essays, I'm sure you'll put your foot through the door. the best of luck!

Why did you feel the need to lie in the title of your thread?

I have no interest in chancing you--based upon your dishonesty in the title.

Didn't you see the headlines the past few days?--$50 billion stolen by a hedge funds trader, Illinois governor arrested for trying to illegally sell a US Senate post, Wall Street firms sued for paying bonuses in violation of TARP (Bailout bill) restrictions---

In my view, this is one of the major problems we have today--there are way too many people going in (and coming out) of top colleges who are dishonest--and who carry that over to their future careers. Personally, I hope you will change your attitude--and actions--if you plan to get into (and graduate from) a school like Yale.

P.S. Let me ask you how you would feel if someone beat you in chess as a result of illegally using a chess computer? Probably quite upset. Look, I know that changing the title of a thread may seem like a minor thing, but it sends me a message that you aren't really thinking about the consequences of your actions--even though I bet you would get upset at the illegal actions of others.

I'm only bringing this up since things like this will affect your ability to get into Yale. Think about it--right now these schools are taking major criticism for not teaching business ethics (as a result of all the Wall Street corruption)--so you need to think about this in your application--and in the actions you take leading up to this.

Calcruzer - hasn't the broken window theory been disproven by Stephen Levitt? What you are doing is comparing jaywalking to murder. I want people to chance me. If someone doesn't like that I was trying to be lighthearted about what many of us feel like around college-time, I don't mind them not posting. But please do not insinuate that I am corrupt and dishonest just because of a thread title.

Momreads - Unfortunately I am not quite good enough to get a full chess-scholar scholarship at UMBC. I probably would still apply there, but I plan on studying economics or history in college.
