@abasket, it looks like they they sell anywhere between $50 to over $100, depending on condition. I think I’ll list around $100 and wait to see what happens.
@conmama Have you had much luck selling used shoes? The consignment shop in my area doesn’t like to take a lot of shoes as she finds she has a hard time selling them. OTOH my D buys all her Ariat clogs used as she is hard on them and they don’t last.
My last Nordstrom sale order arrived. I hated the True and Co bralette. The bottom rolled immediately so it has gone back. I’m loving the Spanx one and hope to find it in more colors.
@BunsenBurner @MomofWildChild miss you both. I am loving my Lululemon align joggers. I wore them everyday on my camping trip and look forward to wearing them this winter. I bought the ankle length by accident but I’m glad I did as it kept my ankles warm and covered. The cropped wide leg which I was going to return ended up being used by my sister who just had knee replacement surgery. We have totally different body types and while they looked hideous on me they look great on her.
I’ve seen wide leg cropped jeans on several Instagram feeds. I like the look but I’ll have to see how they look on. What shoes? I love heels on other people but they aren’t practical in my day to day life. Opinions?
@mom60 , it’s not been bad for percentage ( 20% of my sales). Actually nothing has been selling fast. I’m on the Poshmark and Mercari FB and everyone says it’s been the slowest it has ever been in years, they’ve never seen anything like it and we all know it’s covid, unemployment and nobody is doing much. . Great time for me to jump aboard. My short term goal is to have 200 active listings and I’m almost there and have to stop investing my own money. In 7 weeks I’ve only sold 16 items (one just bought a dress as I’m typing this). I’m having a ball though.
My favorite part is the shipping of course, and that will have to end until I sell more stuff. I have about 30 things to list, we’re supposed to do only a few a day. I just bought these absolutely adorable Betsey Johnson pink with white polka dot open toe stilettos with a black knot bow. Bottom of shoe is leopard print. I so wish they were in my size, or they’d be in my closet. 6 1/2 if anyone is interested.
Wow @conmama Nice business! I had never heard of Mercari, but did a search to replace some 7 year old sunglasses that I loved and found them new on Mercari at a huge discount.
@HighTide2020 i never heard of them either until I started on Poshmark. I decided to cross list my stuff, i can only do 100 items until I sell more on their platform.
I’ve already purchased another item, this time on Mercari. It’s still being sold in stores for $69 and I got it for $30. Ill never make any money.
@conmama D2 is finally going to try and list some items on Poshmark this weekend. I know that the shipping is included in what the buyer pays, but D2 wondered what you actually ship items to buyers in. Thank you for any pointers you have.
@showmom858 , it’s so easy! It’s shipped through USPS, and I use all their boxes, which are free at the post office. All sizes. When she sells an item, she’ll get an email with the label. Print that to use. It will say at the bottom that Poshmark is allowed to use any priority box, flat rate or not flat rate, it doesn’t matter. Sometimes a clerk will say I can’t use the flat rate ones, but I show them the label. This happens with everyone. You can also use any old box, too. Feel free to ask any other questions,
@conmama Thank you so much. That is just what she needed to know!
@showmom858 , tell her to crosslist with Mercari. They only take 10%, (12.9% staring in October), vs PM’s 20%.
Can someone tell me how The RealReal differs from Poshmark and Mercari?
I was given a Prada bag as a hand-me-down. I kept it for awhile but never used it and offered it to my sister about a year ago. She told me today that she had never ended up using it and wanted to send it back to me. I really don’t want it back so she said she’d put it on The RealReal.
Would we potentially have better luck on one of the other sites? I have no experience with any of them. Honestly, I’m not interested in the money; it just seems very wrong to put it in the GoodWill bag.
I’ve been living in joggers and will need to find jeans that fit well this fall.
I wish I was more excited about that!
@collage1 , @BunsenBurner has experience with The Realreal. I’m not sure, but I think you have to join for a fee?
I would not put anything expensive on Mercari. I have learned their are terrible scammer people out there and Mercari almost always sides with the buyer. They’ll say your stuff was damaged, and will get an ok to send back…but what you get is not yours. They’ve kept yours, and now it’s free for them and you get nothing. They do that with much anything, too.
Poshmark actually is better for sellers, but you really have to document your stuff If someone opens a case against you. . I haven’t sold anything terrible expensive yet, but when I do, I will actually video showing the shoes again, showing the buyer mailing label and showing me packing them up to send. A pain, but may be worth it to have a case.
My favorite cashmere sweater is 25% off at Garnet Hill https://www.garnethill.com/cashmere-cropped-sweater/womens-fashion/sweaters/446383?listIndex=8&uniqueId=446383
I have it in two colors but plan on adding a third. It looks great with jeans and with layered colorful beaded necklaces similar to this https://www.sundancecatalog.com/product/rising+dawn+necklace.do?sortby=ourPicks&page=4&refType=&from=fn
I don’t have many places to wear dresses, especially these days. Still last week I bought 2 summer dresses (plus a black jacket). My husband and I had gotten brave, tried another restaurant for outside lunch … then passed a store that is during covid by-appointment. We know the owner, and she happened to have free time after prior appointment. Now I am ready for travel or next summer, whichever comes first
I’m wearing dresses several days a week for working from home- just feels like a long t-shirt or something and is quite comfortable in our hot climate.
I love that sweater @mom60! It looks so cozy.
@colorado_mom , I actually sold two cocktails dresses on POshmark last week. I think people just see stuff they like and buy for the future, especially at PM prices!
I’ve been wearing more dresses this summer but only ones that look halfway decent with my Allbird sneakers or Teva sandals. Where I’ve noticed a huge difference is in what purse I carry. I have a nylon small crossbody bag I use for travel that I used around the beginning of stay at home and I’ve continued to use that bag. I’ve found I’m not carrying much since my trips outside of the house are short and mainly limited to the grocery store. I also am not putting on any jewelry beyond my Fitbit watch and wedding band.
I may wear the more casual of my new dresses to lunch on Thursday (the first time we are eating out with friends during Covid, at an outside rooftop place we like for late lunches after crowds gone).
No purse choice needed though - I always stick with one at a time, used to change it up a few times per year per season. For the past few years it has been a small black canvas travel purse (sort of a super sized fabric wallet, fits glasses case). Now that I’m retired and not lugging a laptop backpack to work anymore perhaps I could change that habit - I still keep a bunch of bigger purses in the basement. But I do like the portability of the small one. I might look for it in a lighter color for next summer.
I bought a micro MZ Wallace bag at the beginning of stay at home and I love it! Light, easy to carry and I don’t have to take it off.
I also bought an old fashioned fanny pack that I wear when I’m walking. I sometimes stop at the grocery on my way home and I enjoy doing my grocery shopping with it also
During the pandemic, I’ve gotten more use out of my fanny pack. I wear it walking and to the intermittent trips to the grocery store or CVS. It holds what I need and keeps my hands free. Not necessarily a fashion statement, but it’s functional.
