Dressing Young (Part 2)

I forgot about the Talbot’s suggestion you had which also looks like it might work. The one near me closed but I just discovered that there’s one near the Soft Surroundings store an hour away. Fingers crossed that both stores have them in stock or at least the different sizes so I can see if they’ll work. Can always order online if needed. Thanks again for your suggestions.

One option to think about is Poshmark. A shrug is an item that’s worn rarely and you might be able to find a new or barely worn one for not a lot. I’ve been searching Poshmark for some hard to find or expensive for me items and there’s a treasure trove of stuff there.

Also Talbots is 30% off everything this week.

Would like to hear more about what you’ve found!!

I like a knitwear brand out of Canada. I don’t even know how to describe them except an elevated sweatshirt. Hard to find around me and expensive. I search Poshmark and eBay to add to my collection

I’ve bought golf attire and comfort shoes. Stuff from past seasons Anthropologie since this season’s stuff is junk :joy: Right now I’m searching for a longer packable down jacket. Looking at north face, Patagonia and Lole.

Those packable down jackets are worth their non-weight in gold!!!

My son has a type of running shoes he is stuck on (he is a man of habit with clothing/shoes - finds something he likes and he is with it for life!) but the style has been discontinued. He has managed to use Poshmark for a couple of years to find new or nearly new pairs to keep his stock going!

@deb922 - wow, I like that Tonia DeBellis stuff! Really cute (pricey, but maybe I’ll also search out Poshmark or eBay!). I just got back from shopping and couldn’t find a cute sweatshirt that was fitted in the waist and not sloppy looking - could wear it to the gym or errands and feel somewhat pulled together. I’ve been looking for months!

So this is not my thing…. but I know some people who like ponchos. I do have a thin poncho-like scarf that I like when traveling, to put over a sleeveless dress when it’s a bit cool.

@collage1 I was looking through a hard copy catalogue and came across another option for you, in GREEN:

deb922 - REI has long, lightweight jackets and also LL Bean!

Not sure if this was the latest Dressing Young thread or not. Anyhow…jeans, let’s talk jeans. Basically all my jeans are skinny…different shades, rises, distressed, comfort. I love them because they show off all the cute footwear. So, I was watching a Lookbook from an influencer and she said skinnies are OUT! But, I see them all over the stores, so I’m not so sure that’s correct.

I went ahead and did buy a pair of bootcut and long cropped flares, just to have something “trendy” in my wardrobe.

Do you think Skinnies are out? Will you wear them as a staple? Does it depend on where we live? Do the coast cities change their fashion quicker? I live in the Midwest, my city is about 900k population.

The baggie, high waisted, flare look is “in”. Terrible look for me - makes me look short and dumpy. I’m sticking with what looks good on my body and the heck with the latest trend (probably makes me “old” though ; )).

I think skinny jeans look better on a wider variety of body shapes than other styles. I have noticed the change in the DC/Baltimore area though. I admit I got another pair of skinny when they were on sale for 25ish bucks.

I ordered a pair of vintage straight hIgh waisted
jeans from Madwell and ended up returning them because in my size they were not flattering. Maybe I’ll try a pair of cropped flairs like @conmama. I also like all of my skinny jeans in different washes and will stick with them for now.

Influencers need to link items as that’s how they make money. So they need to find new items to showcase. And that means new styles of jeans. So they are going to push straight and wide legs jeans. Everyone has skinny jeans. Everyone, no one needs a new pair of skinny jeans.

I saw a group of young girls last week and none of them had on skinny jeans. All straight leg, some full length with cute tennis shoes. Cuter than what I wore in the 90’s

I have straight legs jeans and a pair of Demi boot and I do like them. For the approximately 2 months of the year that it’s not too hot to wear jeans or too cold to not wear socks. Because on me, I think a Jean that ends just above my ankle bone is most flattering. Now they are showing boots with a wider legs but it’s hard to pull off. Without looking like I’m 2 feet tall. So no socks with a bare ankle. Looks cute, not that practical.

So actually in the winter when there’s snow on the ground and 99% of the time I have boots on, I think it’s easier to just wear my skinny jeans.

Which aren’t out of style but aren’t exactly the most trendy style either.

More to add lol!

I think bootcut and flares look best with a heel. We so rarely go anywhere dressy anymore that I buy jeans that I wear with flats. Or boots to wear in the snow. :disappointed:

Bootcut and flare are definitely in. Skinnies were out (really more like a temporary hiatus) for all of 2021 and winter/spring 2022, but seem to be making a return.

Sorry for multiple posts but the editing feature is not showing for me at the moment. I wanted to add that I think skinnies look best with flats or slip on sneakers. I usually wear heels, lug soles, or platform sneakers with my wider leg pants.

I’m guess I always stick with comfort and styles I believe are classic and look good on me. Straight legs (as long as not ultra skinny) seem pretty classic and I see them everywhere.

I see no reason to look frumpy for “fashion” — seems like a bad idea. Folks who try too hard to follow trends accenting their flaws seem silly instead of stylish.
