Dressing Young (Part 2)

I bought this dress from LOFT, which I consider a more youthful store. A blogger had it on, and I’m looking for more day/travel dresses. I’m not keen on small floral prints on me, but I loved the style and it has ties at the front you can cinch how tight you want. Good length, too. Lightweight. Can dress up or down, looks good with yellow or turquoise accessories. On sale.

And if you really want to go young,I bought this Venus top off of Poshmark because they were out of my size online , to add a pop under a turquoise jacket I purchased. I’ll wear it with white jeans. Also looks great on its own. Oh, and I will stand like the model when I’m wearing it.

If you can wear midi’s, which I don’t the length looks terrible on me, this pattern and dress is gorgeous IRL. I tried it on and for a moment considered having it shortened. Like I said the pattern much richer than pic. No tops in it other than one shorter than
I can wear. https://www.loft.com/floral-square-neck-midi-dress/559766?skuId=31079495&defaultColor=1856&catid=catl000013&selectedColor=1856

conmama - those are cute! I particularly like the tank - would be great w/white jeans/blazer.

LOL, @conmama since we can post pics now, PLEASE send your sexy stance in that tank top.

Also regarding photos/links - I wonder what makes the link sometimes post a product photo here and sometimes post just the link? I like when the product photo shows.

I also don’t wear ballet flats. Almost all my Rothy’s are the loafer style. My first pair were the Point and I gave them away. I have a pair of the lace up sneakers which are pretty good, but lace up shoes bother me in general. All the rest of mine are loafers or the old pointed loafer that Rothy’s only made for a hot minute.

I have Both a ballet flat with the rounded toe and also a slip on sneaker. I love the sneaker style but both rub the side of my baby toe. I don’t know why but my feet are wimpy and I find a lot of shoes rub.

After a year of not buying any clothing, I’ve been on a tear* recently.

*I am not much of a shopper, so a tear means I bought more than a single item that I actually needed.

I bought these pants as I slowly transition away from my daily uniform of leggings: Athleta

They are so comfy and I can (hypothetically, if I ever had a reason to…) dress them up with strappy heels and a nice top (see below). Best of all, I think they are going to be perfect to stuff in my beach bag and pull on over my suit on those days when we stay down there through evening.

I also discovered a new (to me) online store: Mango.

I recently bought this top, which seems to go great with both jeans or to dress up the aforementioned athleisure wear pants: https://shop.mango.com/us/women/t-shirts-and-tops-tank-tops/openwork-knit-cotton-top_87097649.html?c=05&talla=19&gclid=CjwKCAjw7J6EBhBDEiwA5UUM2hkmW0AuvST9gcnxqF9D7T3z0Lo0v7yLcSwJLSaYgTOBeeAiXHMH9RoCWeEQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Finally, I bought these, even though I’m forever chastising my kids for wearing jeans that are more holes than material: https://shop.mango.com/us/women/jeans-straight/high-waist-straight-jeans_87024771.html?c=TM&talla=34&gclid=CjwKCAjw7J6EBhBDEiwA5UUM2stUmD2CF8klAqr6x7_tKX4uGKyhXxG23dR-wCWLl7fX_Yi_jF1I2xoCk5EQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

I tried them on and then ran out on an errand. When I returned home, my D24 and her gaggle of friends were on our back porch, as I walked up they all said “OMG, I love your pants!”. As you may know, compliments don’t generally fly spontaneously or authentically from teen girls to their mothers, so I took this as a win.

Haha, now that won’t ever happen!

Good choices! Very youthful, all! Funny story about your girls. I have boys, but when I get a compliment every few years or so, I know it’s deserved! It’s usually a pair of sneakers I’ve purchased, though.

@DeeCee36 - I love all of those! The Athleta wide-legged pants keep showing up on my Inst-feed & I thought they looked so cute & comfy!!

This top came in the mail yesterday and it looks great with my white cropped jeans or regular jeans. We are going on a boat ride Friday afternoon in San Diego Bay and the weather is going to be in the high 70’s. I’m going to wear this shirt with my cropped jeans and cute brown leather slides and a wide brim straw hat. I’m so excited to be dressed up and doing something fun!

@showmom858 that top is beautiful! I wish I could wear white jeans but I’m too self conscious. I need the slimming effect of darker pants.

I’m actually headed to San Diego in a few weeks for our daughter’s college graduation and trying to find an appropriate dress. Looking for something casual but not too casual. A-line, above the knee styles look best on my frame. Pear shaped - Small up top, carry all my weight b/w stomach, rear and upper thighs, thin calves. I’m only 5’’3” so prefer an above the knee length. Anyone have any suggestions? I hate that I can’t really shop in person (dressing rooms closed unless they have recently reopened).

Do you have a Talbots close? The dressing rooms in mine are open. And they have a large range of sizes in the store, including petites.

OK, yay, that worked more normally! Some links show the dress on my post and some don’t, but that is typical.

Loft usually has nice dresses at good prices. I think @conmama linked a pretty one recently.
@soozievt you always hit it out of the park. Love the Anthropologie dress but I don’t need more dresses that I don’t have anywhere to wear them.

@mom60 I like that Anthropologie dress too. I hear you, though…I am not sure why I buy any clothes as I am home 95% of my life. Anyway, those dresses were simply ones that I found that fit the criteria for @4kids4us 's search. Hope there are some possibilities for her!

@soozievt wow, thanks for all the links! I will look through them all. I found one dress on Sundance earlier today that is cute, but might not have enough structure and just make me look like I’m wearing a maternity dress. @mom60 I kind of forgot I needed to get something to wear until yesterday when conmama shared her purchase so that inspired me to start looking. I did buy a dress on Loft last night but think I want something a little more casual/sundressy, esp since the graduation will be outside. This is the one I bought - the style typically is one that flatters me, but I’m not sure I like the fabric, at least for this occasion. This is the one I ordered. It also comes in a sort of deep pink color but it was a little too plain and doesn’t really go with my coloring. Brushstroke Knotted Swing Dress

I think I want something more sundressy/summery. Problem is most of the fun colors/fabrics are in styles that will not look good on me. Too “flowy” just makes me look short and wide.

Editing to add, @soozievt I looked at Anthropologie this morning and coincidentally the dress you linked was the only one that I thought might work (also same dress in one of the other color options). Of dang, of course the Night Sky color is not back in stock until May 23…the day of graduation. :disappointed:

I meant to check Loft earlier for @4kids4us but had a client call and should be working, but here are some that fit your criteria I think:

I considered buying this one myself, but haven’t:
(currently 30% off)…maybe I should get it!
https://www.loft.com/eyelet-smocked-yoke-swing-dress/559630?skuId=31162159&defaultColor=2222&catid=catl000013&selectedColor=2222

I actually bought this dress but am returning it. I like it but have a large bust and it was too snug in the bust area, but might work for you:
https://www.loft.com/embroidered-flutter-sleeve-dress/559456?skuId=31153690&defaultColor=4899&catid=catl000013&selectedColor=4899

EDIT…OY, this thread is dangerous. Decided to buy the first LOFT dress with the discount so it is $68. Seems like a good price.

@4kids4us Actually, I also shop on Sundance, but looked for you earlier and just could not find dresses that fit your description of what you were seeking, though they have some other nice dresses.
