They say that they are closing the gap between what most people pay and the tuition on paper. Meanwhile, my eldest son’s college increased over 4%…
They are lowering tuition because the want students. This school has been struggling for a while. I would seriously question any college that does this as a tactic to obtain more students. Think quality. You get what you pay for.
^ that’s the wrong way to think about college costs. You don’t “get what you pay for” at college, but rather get back what you put in (in terms of work, efforts, initiative…)
Drew is simply making itself more accessible for full pay NJ families willing/able to pay a bit more than public university costs for closer guidance, better support, smaller classes, and ease of access for some special programs.
Drew’s enrollment has been steadily increasing during the 4 years I have been watching it. As a freshman my daughter’s class had roughly 400 in her class. Each year that has gone up. Drew has been an excellent school for my daughter. She is currently a senior and has been hired for two professional jobs before she has even graduated. The connections to the professional world have been invaluable. I agree with @MYOS1634 you get what you put into it. The students are engaged and happy. They have 6 New York semesters that are fantastic. The New York semester on Wall Street, Broadway and UN are just to mention a few.
Every college wants students. Simply google colleges and universities that are under enrolled, or have spots left in the freshman class (not to mention transfers). The fact is, all schools compete for students. Giveaways, application waivers, guaranteed fancy housing…enticing students is nothing new. If Drew lowers tuition to do so, that’s good business in my mind, and I’m happy to reap the rewards. Higher Ed is an extremely competitive business. Drew lowering tuition is a reflection of a commitment to be competitive and ahead of the curve.
