Leaning towards Drexel for a serious institution of higher Chemical Engineering education, but any last second thoughts on Drexel vs. Delaware vs. Penn State would be very nice.
Thanks.
What do the numbers look like for you? http://www.finaid.org/calculators/awardletter.phtml
Well Delaware ranking wise is the highest at 9th and Penn State at 19… why Drexel? Better package financially? @OneMoreKid
We looked at Delaware but kid did not like that campus
Delaware has very good ChemE program and path to jobs with DuPont. But you need to be sure that’s what you want as other programs, even within engineering, are not the same caliber. The campus also doesn’t match up with many others.
I echo the above - my D went Engineering (Purdue) and a classmate went ChemE specifically and almost went to Delaware, and Drexel wasn’t on any of their long lists.
Penn State has quality Engineering programs across the board, but D didn’t like the campus.
With all of the scholarships (and not scholarships) it’s about the same financially.
Delaware has the reputation, but he didn’t get a vibe at the visit. Our daughter is about to graduate from there and loves it to pieces.
Accepted to, but isn’t interested in Penn State.
Drexel doesn’t necessarily have the highest rank, but everyone who knows anything about Drexel says to “stop right there” including comparing to Ivy Leagues.
Accepted to Honors there, too, so the Drexel experience would likely be pretty diverse. Adding the co-ops gives another opportunity for some exceptional diversity and then there’s a potential option for a BS/MS.
Eight 5’s on all eight AP’s would potentially factor in the practicality of the BS/MS; although still very aggressive either way.
The visits were very impressive and he’s connected with some of the students on the tour panels, etc.
Another issue is all of the Ivy Day rejections. There’s two wait lists, but not counting on that. There’s just an underlying sense of depression which I think is clouding all decision-making.
Thanks and thanks for any parental advice to a parent.
I feel like there are kids who immediately like Drexel and those who are “no way” - very few in between.
Does OPs kid not like Penn State? My friend’s kid was in Honors ME there and was very happy.
I went to Penn State and it was the only option for me. Loved it and it was extremely formative for a very unformed person at the time. He thinks it’s just too big and rural with more interest in something smaller and more urban.
Thanks.
