Drexel vs Temple : Science and Engineering

I’m undecided. I really enjoy science (not interested in medical science but more geoscience and physics) and also engineering (civil is the only one i’ve explored so far). My brother said that going into drexel means you’re most likely going to get your scholarships taken away if you’re not a top student. And i’m just a B honors student, not exactly top in my class. He also said that if you don’t choose your major by the 2nd year, you’re most likely going to fall behind. I feel like this also means that if I switch from engineering to science, that would make me fall behind in courses and so then I’d graduate later. The fact that drexel’s credits don’t transfer makes me antsy but I like the campus and community fine for both drexel and temple. Temple is known for its specialty in science, so I feel like going into engineering at temple wouldn’t be the best idea, especially if there are things like drexel’s engineering. Temple doesn’t really have any financial aid problems. I also feel like temple give less attention to its students because of the multitude of people there. And I know that Drexel is known for its engineering background, not its science so am i being depleted of the chance in getting into a high paying science career instead of a normal state job?

I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to make a transfer because that would p.o my parents and might give me setbacks. I wish I knew for sure whether i enjoy the science department or the engineering one. Please help.

There really isn’t anything anyone can say that will fix your situation because at the end of the day its only you that can know what you want to do.

You will have an easier time changing from engineering to science then science to engineering because of the math credits. typically, engineering requires more math than science where science will require more higher level science courses. Unless you transfer at the end of your junior year, I am not so sure you would get set back all that much.

I don’t know what scholarships you have or where you are going to school currently. I am assuming you are applying as a transfer student. The award scholarship I received at Drexel only requires a 2.75 maintenance GPA for $8300/year for me.

I would venture a general opinion of Drexel Engineering being better than Temple, but Temple is still a notable program. I think the Drexel Co Op is more beneficial in the long run when looking for a job and if you are strapped for cash. But, you really need to keep your GPA up to get a great paying Co Op to be safe.I don’t think you would be SOL at Temple’s Engineering if you ended up there. The opportunities that come with an engineering degree are very dependent on what you do with your time at your respective university.

Hope this helps!
