Drop a Class and Re-take or get a C?

I'm currently in a community college in California and working my way to getting into one of the UC's, preferably UCLA or Berkeley. I'm aiming to have the best shot possible at getting into these colleges, so I wont a GPA of around 3.8-4.0. With that in mind, I am seriously struggling in one of my classes, specifically Calculus. Math just doesn't come naturally and I just can't get the hang of it, at least not in the time I have left. I am convinced that if I'll get at LEAST a C in the class, but i'm torn on what to do. I can still drop the class and get a W, and then potentially retake the class and get an A (this I can guarantee, as i'll have more time). Should I take the W and then re-take the class? Or let the C stand and get all A's in everything else?

Does the W count as a Fail/0? Make sure you know what will happen. But yea I would retake if that is what you think is best for you.

Omg I have the same issue except I plan to transfer to a CSU! I’m going to stay and try for a C. I really don’t wana “waste” time & money by retaking it.

I think if you’re able to As in your classes for this semester a C should even out. And if you plan on taking calculus || or its critical to your major, then maybe you should retake it.

Its really up to you though!

They may not accept transfer credit with a C, in which case it wouldn’t matter.

Otherwise, though, I wouldn’t retake it, unless it was going to be very important to the later classes in my major (like a Math or Physics major).

Take the W.

That is all. I don’t see why you need Calculus unless you’re a STEM major.

Calculus is easy. I think you’ll realize this if you took some time on your own like over winter break and go over it a bit.

If you don’t care about your GPA, I don’t see why going for the C would hurt. If you don’t get it, at least you’ll know the material better for when you retake it than you would’ve if you’d just cr*pped out with a W.

@CalDud Lmao no calculus isn’t! I barely it 2 years ago in high school & failed the AP class.
Now I take it in college and there’s more info added to a condensed time frame! I might even reconsider my bio major.

Well, I am heavily thinking of being an English Major, so no, it’s not essential. However, UC Berkeley is seriously difficult to get into, so I need as many perks as I can to get in. That means, if possible, a 4.0. Thank you guys, I’ve decided to drop the class and re-take it later. I have the time for it; I have so many AP credits that I pretty much have empty space in almost every one of my semesters.

Why did I think you might not care about your GPA? I’m a degenerate.

That aside, yeah, that’s fine. But when you take it later, do it right.

Yes sir. I absolutely guarantee its coming out right this time. Thankfully, I still got the notes and everything!

Get a C. It is actually better than retaking the subject on the next semester - you’ll never know if you’ll get busier again at that time.

A C is passing, after all.
