DROP ASTRO?? will it affect UCLA/ UCB admissions?

hey you guys, i have a HUGE concern. I'm a transfer student for fall 09 to hopefully UCLA. The thing is, I'm taking an astronomy class for the IGETC part and the class is ridiculous. I don't even know how my midterm went and I won't be getting back the results until after spring break. I really need a B in the class and its so hard even though he curves it. So my question is, if I drop it and get a W, will it affect my admissions for UCLA/ UCB admissions?? Am I allowed to take an IGETC class during the summer? I have no idea what to do .. adkl;jkf;jdf

someone please help :(

It may affect your admission - are you taking Astron at SMC, by any chance?

you cannot complete IGETC during summer, if you drop the class, because it is part of your IGETC completion, you will have a problem.

sweetnezz UCLA has these ridiculous rules but you are right. ok to OP remember it’s a science class get a C or better unless if its a prereq. what I have done I am taking the class credit/no credit. and I have under a 50% for bio with lab, and I am getting a c in the class the professor is a very nice guy that as long as you come to class you’ll pass so it’s all cool. I think that if you get a C you’ll be more than fine.

yeah, that’s another option, you can petition to take it pass/no pass and then if you get a C or higher you are fine. you have to check with your specific community college though to make sure it will suffice on IGETC certification.

If it is a requirement for your fulfillment of GE’s or a prereq for your major you will have a problem. If it isn’t a requirement or prereq then it is fine, maybe you can either drop the course or petition for pass/fail.

Depending on your major, you may have no problems at all!

UCLA will allow you to complete IGETC in the summer. So if you’re really shooting for LA, you’re fine.

UCB is the one that doesn’t allow this in their conditions for acceptance. However, if you are applying for a major in the L&S, completing IGETC is NOT required as long as you complete the L&S general ed + foreign language.

i am a political science major and no, im taking astro at pierce.
i cant believe this is happening in my last semester …

ugh im so worried :frowning: i dont care about berkeley, but UCLA is where im shooting at.
wait so then i should petition for no pass/ pass OR should i just drop it and get a W and retake another life science class during the summer?

thanks a lot you guys

If you think you can get at least a C then I would petition for pass/fail. If this isn’t possible, then dropping the class wouldn’t hurt at all.

Because the Political Science major is a part of the L&S at Berkeley, you do NOT need to complete IGETC for transfer if you have completed “The L&S Requirements in Reading & Composition, Foreign Language, and Quantitative Reasoning”.

And once again, LA will allow you to complete IGETC in the summer.
Therefore I suggest you take a breath and relax; just keep a cool head and everything will be fine. Good luck on getting in!

^ thank you SO much for responding!
im gonna see what i got on my midterm and decide what to do
oh man april- june is gonna be hell …

wow astro is pretty hardcore. what made you decide to take that over something easy like geography?

^ all of the professors who teach geography isnt that great and the one I was going take died during the winter break … :(

and this prof. had good reviews from everyone so I thought I would try him. sigh ■■■

astronomy is hardcore? it was probably one of the easiest classes i’ve taken.

sweetnezz astro is hardcore in my college

Just drop it after you hear from UCLA

“Just drop it after you hear from UCLA”

this is crazy, if drop it after hearing from ucla, the admission will be rescinded. the best way is to drop now and report to them assp

^ I should drop it NOW? wouldnt that affect my admission anyways? :frowning:
I’m still waiting to see what I got on my midterm … i have no idea how I did since everything I studied was NOT on it which is why i think i did bad on it idk.

Who’s your astronomy teacher at Pierce? I had Fields last semester and he was crazy easy.
