Droping a course second semester, senior year?

Hey CC - I was wondering if I could get a general answer to my question about senior year schedules. I'm signed up for these courses next year: AP English IV, Honors Calculus/AP Calc AB (year long), AP Psych, AP Human Geography, Honors Anatomy, German I, and German II, with the only required courses I need to graduate being English IV and Honors Anatomy. If I'm accepted into one of my top choice schools (think big, state schools with a ~50% admittance rate) is it going to harm me if after I get accepted to drop a non-required class for graduation for an open slot, where I could then get out of school early and work an extra hour or two at my job? Obviously, I know each school is going to be different, and schools make decisions in mind about "assuming you pass each class on your senior schedule" but I was just wondering how this would work, and what some peoples general experiences about this are. I don't really want to submit an application to college with an empty slot on my senior year, but I wouldn't mind getting out around 12:15 every day and getting some extra money at work, especially if it's at the expense of a useless AP class like Human geography.

What do you all think?

You will probably be required to let the school know that you have changed your schedule, but taking a period off shouldn’t matter to most schools, especially if the reason is because you want to work. D took only 5 classes her entire senior year because she had a demanding internship and wanted to be out of school by lunch each day - no school even questioned it, let alone made an issue of it - and these were highly selective schools as well.

Alright, thanks. I’m mostly concerned with not having “early dismissal” on my senior schedule when I apply, then changing it when im accepted - I feel like thats kind of cheating the system a little and it might be frowned upon.

I wouldn’t worry about it. This is trivial if nothing else important changes.
