Hi Everyone,
I was hoping you could give me you opinion on having dropped Maths as a subject in Class 9, 10, 11 and 12 (i.e. all 4 year of high school). I am self studying and taking SAT2 Maths Level1 as a subject test. Would you have any comments/advice on how this would affect my chances at a very competitive college e.g. Northwestern, USC and the Ivies (I know it will have an impact, but am just trying to understand to what extent) and any suggestions for how to make up for this potential weakness in my application?

Some universities require more than 3 years of math. That was a huge mistake. Go to the universities website and check the high school requirements

Why would you ever do that, most good colleges will expect you have taken at least basic calculus

I doubt if any counselor would let you do that. You may skip some Math course, but you would still need to have 4 years of Math for most schools. Taking SAT2 Math1 means nothing even if you scored 800. After all, you may not even fulfill your high school graduation requirement unless you have tested out for each Math class by taking them online.

Plus you should be taking SAT II Math 2 not Math 1.

going by the name of the person who wrote this at first, im assuming your from india. well, if you are i know it is allowed in schools to drop math for high school. so yes, you will graduate dont worry about that but your university choices are drastically reduced as the number of universities accepting ppl without math will be few. to prove you do know some math you must take the sat2 math preferably level 2 to increase your chances

For most schools in US its required to take 3 or 4 math classes…This requirement is also shown by many of the top universities you are perhaps intended to apply. I suggest you take CLEP tests or other AP tests that pertain to math- regarding that these colleges will understand your choice…
