Hi everyone,
I am a high school sophomore and I live outside the US. I registered for the May SAT Subject Test Math level 2 and is deciding between whether or not to take it. I have two AP exams coming up as well as finals to prepare for, so I barely had any time to study for this except for in the winter break. I am currently in precalculus. Please give me some advice. Anything would be much appreciated.
Thanks!!
It doesn’t really matter anymore, especially if you take the sat. If you want to apply to UK or European or Canadian universities where such scores would be beneficial, sure, but for the US, it doesn’t add anything a 700+ on SAT math wouldnt indicate.
I disagree that a 700 math SAT scores shows just as much math capability that an 800 on the Math 2 Subject Test would, for schools that accept Subject Test scores.
If for no other reason, it covers many topics not even on the SAT.
I agree that it doesn’t show the same knowledge at all, but for top colleges (that I assume OP is aiming for) the test is just supposed to verify some aspects of the transcript, and as long as applicants meet a certain threshold, other parts of the transcript become much more important.
Many colleges will be test optional anyway.
As a result, OP is better off getting straight A’s and 5s in their APs, than focusing on Math2.
If you have an SAT math score of 700 or higher I doubt another score on the Math II will be of any significance outside of reaffirming your proficiency in math.
Notwithstanding, if you have the chance, why not? After all, the test isn’t that much harder compared to the math section on the SAT I (if not easier thanks to its generous curve). Also, it can’t hurt your apps should you score well; it can only benefit you.
As SAT subject tests are being discontinued, it probably won’t make any difference, but if you do take it, it should not require significant preparation other than doing well in your precalculus math course (that you are presumably doing to trying to do anyway).
