Hi, I am a junior in high school, I recently visited GW and loved it. I plan to apply ED1 to the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences. I scheduled an interview at GW which due to travel constraints I was not able to attend. The airline lost my baggage, and without getting into the details, I totally forgot to notify the admissions office that I would not be able to attend until it was too late. As I was trying to find my baggage, nothing else really seemed important. To add on to all of this, I am a junior and later found out I wold not have been able to interview at all. I sent them an apologetic email later. I know I should have notified them beforehand and that I was disrespectful, and that the admissions office was upset. I honestly am most worried about the bottom line, which would be my chances for admission when it comes time to apply. I would guess that they would have made note of this somehow, but will they notice about a year from now when I apply? Is this an event that I can negate when I do actually interview? If it helps my stats are a 3.5 UW gpa at the best school in the state (MN), well above average ECs, outstanding letters of recommendation, solid essays, 1920/2400 SAT, IB Diploma Candidate, 12 IB classes, 4 AP classes (all fives and fours of the tests), 4 honors classes. Substantial upward trend.
Thanks so much for your help. GW is my dream school and I just want to know how severely this blunder might effect my chances.

The office was upset? What are they, babies?

*Wrong post, apologies. Hope all goes well for you, OP. GW is a good school.

DD attends GWU and they have been nothing but supportive and helpful as she has found her way there. I cant speak first hand for specifically how they track applicants, but unless they had a photo of you and your social security number, I seriously doubt they will worry next year about whether you missed an interview this year. Because you sent an apology, you are covered anyhow. Relax.

They have thousands and thousands of applicants. They’re really not that into you or your interviews.

Apply, and rethink situations like that. Losing baggage on a trip to your “dream” college shouldn’t be as much of a concern as attending the interview you flew there to attend. Airlines lose baggage all the time, and often find it. When they find the luggage, they’ll fly it to you and often drive it to your house. It’s luggage, not the great sea scrolls.

Nonetheless, I doubt anyone from admissions would remember you forgot an interview during your junior year. I would skip the interview unless required anyway.
