Let's say that I am admitted to UF next Friday. Let's say that following my admission, I drop a class. I still meet all the prerequisites for admission, but am now missing a class from my schedule. I let UF know. Does this lead to UF rescinding my admission??

Unless it’s an academic class, I don’t think you have any problem (the counselors at my school keeps people from switching out of academic classes because of this). But if you let Admissions know and they say it’s fine, then you shouldn’t have any problem.

I’m kind of worried too because I’m taking a bunch of academic FLVS classes and I’m afraid that if I don’t finish all of the classes by the time I graduate (they wouldn’t appear on my final transcript), I will get my admission taken away (if I get accepted, of course :)).

What class is it that you’re dropping, anyway?

Colleges usually aren’t a fan of dropping classes from your schedule because they consider the strength of your senior schedule when they admit you.

So it would be a little disingenuous to submit a tough schedule full of AP’s on your application, than drop them as soon as you are admitted.

It really depends what you are dropping. If you are dropping ceramics for a study hall that would likely be ok , but that is completely different than dropping Calc BC so you can coast through 2nd semester.

I would talk to UF and your admissions counselor.

@roffles Me too! I took 6 classes @ FLVS, I have just 1 AP remaining and that’s it! | and I recommend to drop classes only and only if those classes are going to affect your GPA, you should call admissions.

Drop one AP, you still have a reasonable shot. Drop most of your APs, you’re done. Heard from secondhand source.

my D dropped her Stats class the 2nd week of school, took on an FLVS class (science) and just started a dual enrollment college algebra class at the local CC. Her guidance counselor said that as long as she dropped it before the first , like 3 weeks, she was good, and replaced it with something else (academic) …and we let the schools know that her schedule changed (not that she dropped the class since they wouldn’t see it since it was dropped so early.)

this may not be your situation, but just wanted to share…
good luck.

its not even an AP course. I am taking 3 APs, but none of them will be dropped. I decided to take AP Biology last year and Honors Physics this year as my sciences. I really hate the class and the teacher, so I really want to drop. I’ll call UF and ask about it. Thanks guys.

i have a question regarding this… currently i am taking BC Calculus but i’ve been trying to switch out to AB Calc since october because it’s affecting my gpa in a negative way. however, my ib counselor and ib lead teacher and my math teacher have been sending me around everywhere aimlessly! but now i finally got to speak to the assistant principal and she said that she’s going to try to make the switch now because i really feel that i won’t do well if i continue in BC. so my question is, if i switch, will this make UF reconsider my admission (considering i get in) ?

Techno and gators, if you can finish with a “C” average for the year I recommend you stay. They won’t rescind your admission in that case, unless you are an “A” student getting C’s in every class. Playing it safe is more important.

lr2010, I have 2 left (Art History and Calc BC :().

@gators
Yes any course change will allow them to reconsider your admission. However, they will definitely not reject you just because you switched from Cal BC to Cal AB. I assume that you started BC without taking AB. Taking BC without an inital AB background is very difficult and I’m sure the UF admission committe will understand this, though i’m positive it will not hurt to call UF and explain your situation.

well i didnt take AB Calc in my high school… like the AP class. i took Calculus & Analytical Geometry 1 during the summer and then i went to BC. so yes, i was hoping that they would understand my situation because i don’t want to end up with anything lower than a B as my final grade. thank you guys, i will definitely call UF to ask them about this :)

What if you drop the second semester of Physics? I was taking it on FLVS. I’m already taking 5 AP classes in school, and another through FLVS (AP Micro) so a total of 6.

Sorry if I brought up an old thread, I really need to know!! I got accepted for Fall and I emailed them today. The admissions officer said not to drop it but I honestly think I can’t finish it by April (when my grades are due) and I explained that in my email. I also said that it’s interfering with my ability to do well in my other classes…She said it’s a personal decision but my app will be reviewed again sob
